My Approach

My approach draws on psychoanalytic theory and practice to offer thought provoking interventions designed to encourage a new understanding of your patterns of thinking and behaviour and to help you to adjust your repertoire of responses in ways that improve your mood, relationships and life opportunities.

You may be bringing live issues, longstanding concerns and old wounds or the problem may not be clear. Perhaps relationships are unsatisfactory or too many aspects of life feel overwhelming. I offer short or long-term psychodynamic therapy for individuals either face-to-face, by telephone or online.

About Me

I am a qualified psychoanalyst / psychotherapist with over ten years experience in the private and charity sectors as well as the NHS, I work with a variety of issues, including; depressions and anxiety, workplace and relationship stress, bereavement, addictions, anger-management, trauma, abuse and loss of meaning and creative blocks across the intersectionalities of gender, race, class and sexual orientation. I approach is colloborative and I bring warmth and compassion to make a safe, confidential space where you can speak freely. Do give me a call for a brief chat in the first instance. I offer the initial session free of charge.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

My experience of working with addictions is that this is a self-destructive solution to a significant deficit. I will ask you to think about the pain that causes the addiction. This can be emotional, considerably demanding work. I provide a safe, non-judgemental and supportive space in which this question can be explored in a gentle and sustainable way.
Sometimes we encounter others who appear to bring difficulties and challenges into our lives. They may even appear to make work, relationships and socialising feel impossible. Therapy can map out your options for dealing with bullying. It is an opportunity to explore what exactly is going on and how best you can cope with the hurt, shame and damage this is doing to you. There will be ways to cope better with these situations.
I have worked extensively with people presenting with depression and low-mood and will work with you to unpack the conscious and unconscious processes that are feeding your suffering. With this information I can work with you to unblock the motivated and life-affirming aspects of self.
Life experience, new challenges and the changing vocabularies of culture, society or the family may raise questions that the individual is struggling to answer. Establishing confidence in one's identity or identities is fundamental to good mental health and self-confidence. I work with you to navigate your unique cultural, sexual, professional and other histories to discover where you are most comfortable, most real, and most open to growth and healthy self-development.
Stress is a significant stealer of energy, enthusiasm and enjoyment. Left unresolved it can wreck the very thing we have worked hard to create. Recognition is the first stage and we must also think about the approach that has been taken to manage stress that is no longer working, or is working in a way that is self-sabotaging. This can be a relatively short-term project although seriously disabling stress may require a wider focus within a longer-term approach.
