My Approach

I came to the profession by sitting in the client’s chair myself, and embarking on my own journey of healing and self-awareness. I know how absolutely daunting it can feel, but I believe in the power of a supportive and nurturing environment so much, that I would like to offer the same to you.

My goal is to listen and hear you, support you, offer perspective, help you to get to know yourself and understand why you do the things you do. I believe that understanding our behaviours leads to choice, and when we have choices, this can lead to change, and even lead to acceptance of what cannot be changed.
When we are anxious, stressed or depressed, we may turn to coping strategies - some are helpful, some not. We can explore coping strategies that may have become destructive (eg binge eating, purging, self-harm, drinking), and find ways to replace these with other strategies for anxiety. We can look at thought patterns, and feelings about yourself and others. We might examine present and early relationships, to try to make sense of them.

Change can be hard, there is no doubt, and talking about yourself might feel uncomfortable at times, but with the right encouragement and environment, I believe and know that a more balanced, and even a happier life, is entirely possible.

About Me

I’m glad you have found your way here – it means you have realised something might not be quite right, are unsatisfied with your life, or find it overwhelming. You may feel lonely, isolated, stuck or even trapped. Perhaps you would like a more fulfilling existence? Perhaps you would like to tell your story and be heard. Maybe you have found yourself with low confidence, painful feelings of ‘not good enough’, or having experienced abuse or recurrent losses. Feelings of loss and grief can be a result of not only death, but job loss, miscarriage, a bad relationship or relationship ending, historical abuse, or grief for a life not fully lived. Grief can feel very overwhelming and painful. Maybe you find certain situations triggering, overwhelming or unbearable?

Counselling can help you move on from the painful feelings of the past, become more engaged with the present, and make plans and goals for the future.

I am an Integratively trained counsellor which means I incorporate Psychodynamic, Humanistic and Cognitive theory into my work with you. This means I tailor my practise to your own specific and ever-changing needs, to adapt to what works for you. I have a particular interest in Attachment Theory – I believe our experiences of childhood affect our adult relationships and how we view ourselves in the here and now.

I have experience working with an eating disorder charity, a mental health charity, and working with historical abuse. I would say my specialisms are difficult relationships with parents (especially the mother-daughter relationship), eating disorders and historic abuse.

I offer in-person only appointments. The therapy space is located in central Norwich close to carparks and major bus routes. I offer a no obligation reduced price first session (£25).

My availability: I have some limited day time sessions available, (evenings are fully booked). I don't offer online counselling at this time.
