I work as an integrative psychotherapist, meaning I use and combine elements from a wide range of contemporary and traditional counselling and therapy approaches; to include and work with a deeper understanding of the self & mind-body connection. I adapt and tailor the sessions to you, including your identity i.e. gender, spirituality, race, culture, health, class and sexuality.
My background includes 7+ years' experience of working within the field of and, with individuals experiencing severe mental health, trauma, abuse and sexual violence. My years within these roles have informed my approach as a therapist now.
I work with a number of different issues, questions and explorations.
I offer a warm and open space in the therapy to being to be with and put words to what is bringing you in, in the safety of your own pace. There are times in life where we cannot continue as we are, when experiencing deep distress, challenges and difficulties. Exploring what may be impacting you, in a confidential session can provide a useful support. Where what you might need right now to cope and be supported, can be considered.
Alongside your own goals and desires for the therapy, I include ways to become as present as you can in your life. Shifting from disconnect, anxiety, overwhelm and numbness perhaps, to connection(s), stability and joy.
I understand beginning therapy can be daunting. Meeting for our first session, allows us to see how we would feel working together and give space to discuss your ideas and expectations for the therapy. Have a look at my website for more info (www.spbcounselling.com) and if you have any questions, you are welcome to contact me.
