My Approach

I am a family therapist and clinical supervisor who has worked in the NHS for over 25 years with children, families and hospital and social care staff in supporting relationships and harnessing the resources to enable prosperity, hope and change even in the most difficult of situations. I am also an certified Non Violence Resitance practioner and have used these principles of presence, de-escalation, raising supporters in all my practice. I am also trained in Advanced Integrative Therapy (AIT) - a Body trauma Approach which uses non verbal methods to heal and connect present challenges to past which I use in individual, couple and groups. I am keen on Mindfulness and use these practises to ground and prepare for the work to be done together,

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have worked with Anorexia and Eating issues within my inpatient work and have experience of working within the family based treatment and the use of NVR to raise parental presence.
I have worked within inpatient and community camhs settings for over 25 years and specialise in how to connect with young people who struggle with depression and suicidality with a particular ability to support the secondary trauma associated with caring for a young person and the impact on siblings. I also have personal experiencing of raising a daughter who has depression and the struggles and challenges this brings whilst understanding the importance deeply of parental presence, working with agencies and how to manage risk in a real and practical way.
I am a mindful practitioner and combine this practice with conversations around the impact of debilitating conditions on relationships and viseversa. I have had personal interest in this area following my own successful cancer treatment and the use of body trauma therapy to tap into the bodys own way of healing.
I have worked with parents in specialised approach of Non Violence Resistance (NVR) for children who will not attend therapy but there are risks of aggression, violence, school refusal, self harm and suicidality, - having worked with the Looked after Service and with adoptive families.
I have a deep spiritual practice that is non religious but I use this in my personal life as self care and to enable warmth and compassion in my practice. This is an area I enjoy exploring in my work to explore how we bring hope, and our own abilities to recover into our lives.
