About Me

I can offer you a safe, comfortable and confidential space where we can work together on whatever problems you may be experiencing. I believe we all strive to be the person we wish to be every day but sometimes life problems and relationships move us off course and we need help to find our way back to a more stable place. You have within yourself the capacity to understand yourself better. My role is to tailor the therapy approach from the wide range of training, knowledge and experience I have gained over time, that will best suit you to achieve this, including individual therapy and couples therapy to suit your needs.

How therapy can help you:
I believe that therapy can give you an opportunity to learn about yourself and understand your own processes more clearly, especially when you may be feeling anxious or depressed or impacted by some life trauma. My training and experience in humanistic counselling therapy can provide you with a framework to explore and learn more about your difficulties and to use a range of creative ways to express your thoughts and feelings. We can identify the roots of your problems and develop your ability to cope better. We can also focus on the here and now barriers and challenges that you are facing and we can look together at a way through. You can then use this knowledge to guide you towards fulfillment, confidence and self-discovery. Therapy can help you to create those opportunities for positive change and to develop your resilience and self-worth including incorporating, empathy, mindfulness and self-compassion into your daily life.

What you can expect at your first session:
I understand that taking the step first step to talk about about things which challenge us or cause distress can be difficult initially. So our first meeting will to give you the opportunity, at a pace which suits you, to share with me your thoughts and feelings about the problems you would like to help with. Having used this time to gain a clearer understanding, we will then think about the focus for future sessions and plan together how best to approach our work together. If your problems are related to your relationship, I have trained in Couples Therapy and we can consider whether you are your partner would benefit from therapy sessions together.

My knowledge and experience:
I have extensive experience of working within the NHS, the private and public sectors and in private practice, providing both short-term and long-term therapy. I have worked with clients experiencing a wide range of issues, including general anxiety, social phobia, depression, trauma and loss, obsessive compulsive problems (OCD), health anxiety, adjustment and managing change, and work related stress. As well as counselling, I am also an accredited CBT therapist and and a qualified and experienced clinical supervisor.
