I specialise in working with clients who believe or suspect they are suffering from CPTSD (complex pstd). You do not need a diagnosis of CPTSD to resonate with it. It is not too late to get help as long as you are willing to make changes and be curious about what is happening in your brain. Our brains are remarkable and able to form new ideas, neural pathways and connections. You can learn to value yourself and have better relationships.
ARE YOU DEPRESSED BUT DON’T REALLY UNDERSTAND WHY?
You have a job, friends, you go out. From the outside you look like you’re successful, but on the inside you feel like there is something wrong with you.
DO YOU STRUGGLE WITH RELATIONSHIPS?
You want to connect with people but you always seem to find the wrong people in relationships. Or when you are in a relationship, you struggle to trust the other person and don’t understand what they would see in you.
DO YOU EXPERIENCE YOUR EMOTIONS AS OVERWHELMING?
You find it hard to get over things in the way other people describe and replay them for hours, days or months. Maybe you have panic attacks or you try and shut yourself off from your feelings by putting them in a box and ignoring them. Some people experience emotional flashbacks which can be confusing and scary (this can be a symptom of CPTSD/C-PTSD).
WOULD YOU LIKE TO UNDERSTAND YOURSELF BETTER?
Would you like to learn how to improve your relationships with partners, family and friends by clearly communicating what you want or need and stop thinking it’s your fault when somebody treats you badly? Would you like to be able to stand up for yourself and tell others when they are hurting you? Would you like to improve your self esteem so that it is not subject to someone else’s opinion, so that you know you are ok without needing other people to approve of you?
THERAPY CAN HELP YOU LEARN TO RECOGNISE, EXPRESS AND TOLERATE YOUR EMOTIONS
When we learn to do this, it becomes less necessary to turn difficult emotions back in on ourselves and self harm by eating, drinking, cutting, shutting off or using other coping methods to deal with them. Once triggers are identified, they can be more easily recognised and we can work on helping you to cope better with being triggered.
You can learn to replace the negative voice inside your head with a more supportive and positive one, so that you no longer feel the need to run away from your own thoughts.
WHO I WORK WITH
I have a special interest in working with people with depression and those who have suffered from childhood trauma especially emotional abuse including people who suspect they have or have been diagnosed wth C-PTSD/CPTSD (complex post traumatic stress disorder).
I also work with a wide range of issues including self esteem, relationship problems, coping with past abuse, identity, questioning or coming to terms with your sexuality, grief, eating problems and addictions. In fact it's common for people to have several things they are struggling with, so you might feel you're depressed but also have panic attacks and low self esteem.
I will be happy to work with you regardless of your sexual origination, gender identity, nationality, religion, age, race or disability. My office is wheelchair accessible and my practice is LGBTQIA inclusive.
I currently have openings for new clients available.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
