About Me

Perhaps you have a specific problem or issue that wants attention, or a more general sense of unease or dissatisfaction with your life? You may feel in distress, overwhelmed by feelings, or as if life ‘isn’t working’. Problems may be showing up in your personal relationships; at home or at work; in changes of mood or outbursts of anger. You may also be experiencing physical symptoms such as: tiredness; disturbed sleep; eating problems; increasing your use of drugs or alcohol to cope. You might have defined your problem as stress, anxiety or depression.
Psychotherapy or counselling offers you a safe, confidential space where you will be listened to carefully and without judgement. From there it is possible to clarify what the problem or unease is, how it came to be, and to move forward. It is a chance to explore, think about and understand life, so that you can live it well.
I am a UKCP accredited counsellor and psychotherapist based in Margate, Kent. My clinic is accessible to clients in the Thanet and East Kent area, and I also offer telephone sessions. I work with individual adults, couples, young people and families. Since undertaking additional training as a Systemic Practitioner I particularly enjoy working with family, school and parenting problems, and can consult to professionals around these issues. I also offer supervision to trainee and experienced counsellors or therapists. Counselling or psychotherapy sessions usually take place weekly. I work with clients on both a short and long-term basis, and suggest that allowing for 6-12 sessions is a good place to start. I have experience of working with many mental health and existential issues including: Depression; Anxiety; Loss; Teen issues; Self-harm; Separation; Parenting; Post-natal depression; Gender and Sexuality issues, Relationship Problems; Loneliness. Counselling and psychotherapy is confidential, with certain exceptions, and I abide by the code of ethics of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (http://www.ukcp.org.uk/) and the BACP.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I love supervision and have experience of supervising psychotherapists and counsellors, school leaders and teaching staff, and workers in a domestic abuse charity. I believe passionately in the importance of reflective supervision for everyone working in challenging roles. In my supervision practice I aim to be experiential, relational and to bring about positive change. My approach is collaborative, and I am inspired by the AEDP supervision ethos of ‘rigour without shame’. My supervision training was with Robin Shohet and Joan Wilmot at CSTD and their 7-Eyed Model forms the basis of my approach. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss either individual or organisational supervision needs.
I worked for some years as an EAP counsellor and team manager. I have experience of helping employees with workplace issues such as bullying, career choice and development, workplace trauma and critical incidents, retirement/ life transition. I have worked with school teachers and support staff and have understanding and sensitivity to the demands of working in schools and with children including those with additional education needs.
