My Approach

I am a person-centred counsellor and psychotherapist. I aim to offer a warm, accepting therapeutic relationship in which I engage openly and genuinely. While each relationship develops differently, people often come to greater self-understanding, including self-discovery and self-acceptance; and that the reflective space and dialogue lead to personal growth. I believe people have the resources within themselves to respond to the challenges they face, and that it is my role to help them identify and develop their own capacity. I welcome opportunities to work with people from all social locations and intersections, not only from the point of view of social justice, but to engage with each individual as they are and in their own cultural context.

About Me

As well as being a therapist, I am also a supervisor and trainer. I trained at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute in Nottingham (2010-14), and now live in Edinburgh, where I have lived on and off throughout my adult life. Before training as a therapist, I had many years experience of working in education in a variety of contexts and roles, which led me eventually to a career in therapy.
I have worked in the charity sector with individuals and groups, in a variety of educational settings (in a secondary school, a 6th Form College, and a university), as well as in independent practice. I was involved in the research project 'An Internet of Soft Things' which was a collaboration between Nottingham Trent University and the mental health charity, Mind.
I am a person-centred supervisor with a Post-Graduate Certificate in Supervision (endorsed by BACP).
I have been training new counsellors and psychotherapists at the Sherwood Institute since 2016, and I feel passionately about widening access to good quality therapist training.
I have a love of travelling, music, art and performance, and animals.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have many years of working with autism, and I enjoy encountering all sorts of neurodiversity, as well as reflecting on my own experiencing. I feel it's important to value the qualities of each person, as well as acknowledging and addressing the challenges of life.
I feel it is important to engage with race issues and to speak about these as part of therapy. I welcome opportunities to address these issues in therapeutic relationships with people of all racial and ethnic identities and backgrounds.
I have many years experience of working with people who have had Adverse Childhood Experiences both as individuals and in groups. I offer a safe space to explore, to reflect and to heal.
