My Approach

I work using a psychodynamic approach. Fundamentally this means that I believe our early life and experiences informs and impacts on how we relate to each other and to ourselves as we begin to grow and find our place in the world. Everyone is different and whilst we might share experiences and have things in common with each other, how we manage and process our own individual lives varies and at times we find that we need help. I offer a safe, private and confidential space to explore confusing, often debilitating thoughts and feelings. Taking the time to invest in, and learn about yourself, to gain clarity and improve your wellbeing is so important. This can take time and I will carefully hold in mind your specific needs. I also hold a recognised Certificate in Online and Telephone counselling.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Anxiety plays a part in many people's lives. It presents itself with numerous physical symptoms and making an emotional connection to understanding these brings clarity and ultimately an easing of them. Exploring the anxiety and how it might relate to life events alleviates confusion. In my experience of working with anxiety it often relates to feelings of frustation, fear, being out of control of circumstances in life and anger.
I have extensive experience of working with people who are going through a bereavement. This process is painful and can be complicated. Sometimes the death of someone close to us is unexpected and untimely. Having the time to talk helps the grieving process. There is often confusion, regret and hurt associated with the relationship that we have had with the deceased.
I have many years of experience working with depression. Depression is a term or diagnosis that covers many different emotions. It can be extremely debilitating and leave one feeling stuck, helpless and hopeless. It is important to take the time to get an understanding of the depression and what may or may not be underlying it.
Being in or out of a relationship can be difficult, challenging and/or painful. Having individual psychotherapy sessions can offer the opportunity to explore the complex and sometimes conflicting feelings and expectations that lead to distress and unhappiness.
I am a qualified clinical supervisor and hold a Certificate in Advanced Clinical Supervision, in person and online.
