My Approach

My integrative psychotherapy model is underpinned by psychodynamic, humanistic and constructivist theories, including transactional analysis, self-psychology and narrative therapy. My model has evolved through clinical experience and an increased understanding of how individuals present in therapy. Much of my work is centred around relational trauma experienced by clients after interactions with other people during important stages of their lives. I am currently working on using Polyvagal Theory to work with neurodiversity.

Essentially I seek to fit my psychotherapeutic approach to the needs of each individual client.

About Me

I am experienced in working with individuals, who struggle to form stable relationships or manage their emotions, and whose life experiences have left them with a negative view of themselves or their future.

I have worked as a qualified psychotherapist for over 20 years offering counselling and psychotherapy to clients of all ages and at all life stages, in particular adolescents, young adults moving from education to work, (including new parents), and adults experiencing family and relational problems. I have particular experience in working with gender identification, sexuality, attachment issues, neurodiversity, adverse childhood experiences, (abuse, domestic violence, adoption, poor parental relationships, bullying or relational trauma etc.), family relationships, and loss through adoption, divorce or bereavement.

Underpinning my work with client's is my wish to enable, support and work collaboratively with each person to build safe therapeutic relationships where clients can explore their past experiences, understand why they act or think as they do in the present and build their self-confidence, so they can play a full role in making the changes necessary for them to enjoy life more, achieve their potential and build robust relationships with themselves and others.

I have an MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy and I am currently dual registered with UKCP as both a Child & Adolescent and Adult Psychotherapist. However, I remain committed to ongoing professional development to ensure I deliver therapy to the best of my ability.

I have a particular interest in supporting parents, who had adverse childhood experiences, and are currently struggling to maintain or build positive relationships with their own children.

Organisations I have worked with over the years include, GP surgeries, Sandwell Women's Aid, Cruse Bereavement Care, Murray Hall Community Trust, Newman Health & Wellbeing, schools in Dudley, Sandwell and Birmingham, alongside colleges working with young adults with neurodiversity.

I currently work on the edge of Birmingham and the Black Country and am also easily accessible from the Halesowen, Stourbridge, Dudley, West Bromwich and Oldbury areas.

  • Children and young people
  • Couples
  • Families
  • Individuals

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Understanding anxiety and releasing the emotions that might underpin it, alongside developing strategies to cope with life events, such as work, exams, illness, school and friendships.
Understanding the impact of loss due to death, divorce, adoption or disability, and working on strategies to manage it.
Exploring parent and child relationships, understanding the dynamics of family interactions, building stability into everyday life. I have a particular interest in supporting parents, who had adverse childhood experiences, and are currently struggling to maintain or build positive relationships with their own children.
Establishing who you really are, having explored the influences past and present on how you view yourself.
Understanding better what might undermine your relationships with others and your relationship with yourself.
