My Approach

I work from an Integrative perspective believing that many of our unhealthy relationship, work etc patterns, such as anxiety, depression, addictive behaviours are influenced by difficulties in relationships we experienced during our early years. The main theories I use are to provide you with education regarding how you experience events, and help to understand that even some of our most fearful responses are actually completely normal and healthy.

About Me

I have worked in forensic and community settings since 2002 delivering therapeutic interventions to enable clients to develop awareness of their harmful patterns to themselves and the relationships they are part of. I believe that all negative behaviours can be addressed through a caring and empathic therapeutic relationship by understanding the thoughts and emotions which drive them. Ironically I entered my training to be a therapist hoping it to provide an alternative career path. The experience provided so much more and I feel confident I can use my skills and experience to assist any change our work will undertake.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have worked with many forms of addictive behaviour. I recognise the challenges that we can experience when the addiction frustrates goals of living a healthy and fulfilling life. I understand the journey of change can be fraught with challenges and disappointments, but recognise the potential every person has for change. The opportunity for self value when our awareness of our addictive patterns has been realised is accessible by everyone.
I have worked with relationship behaviour in different settings with differing client needs. During my career I have worked with male and female survivors and victims of domestic abuse and people experiencing unhealthy sexual functioning.
In the world we live stress is an ever present and ever increasing problem. I work to understand what may aggravate how we can manage stress in terms of our earlier life experiences. Additionally I focus on your current lifestyle in terms of understanding the impact diet and exercise also has on our experience of stress and how it impacts our personal relationships.
I am currently completing my Diploma In Supervision with the Sherwood Institute of Psychotherapy. To complete my clinical hours I am offering a reduced fee for a certain period. Some of our sessions would need to be face to face in the Nottingham area.
I work from the perspective that many of our challenging adult behaviours are merely responses we have learned during earlier partners of our lives who do so to keep us safe. We may not have learned to let go of these behaviours and responses which is the reason they continue to present. Our work can address how we can develop awareness of these responses to choose healthier responses to triggers or situations.
