My Approach

I am an Integrative psychotherapist. You might choose to do therapy because you wish to understand yourself better, to build resilience or to make changes and to take action. I will engage with you by enquiring deeply in order to recognise and acknowledge what you have lived through and how you see it. Together we will work to expand and deepen an understanding of your life and your story, to shift destructive or unhelpful thoughts and feelings, to create a coherent narrative, perhaps seeing new points of view in order to update what might be an old story or working to find good endings. My main influences are humanistic, psychodynamic and attachment theories.

About Me

I have over thirty years of professional experience. I am practical, compassionate and creative, with a straightforward, friendly and open manner. My approach to therapy recognises the importance of our daily life contexts and takes into account gender, ethnic identities, class, sexuality, health and the political and social spheres. I have lived in four different countries and understand cultural difference from the inside. As well as maintaining a private practice I have worked in a variety of settings over the years, as a consultant, trainer and supervisor.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have lived in four countries, making my home in each, and so I understand issues of managing day to day living in different cultures as well as estrangement from or nostalgia for one's culture of origin.
In this time of Covid I have switched my practice to working online with Zoom or WhatsApp. I am therefore able to work with people regardless of location.
I have had many years of experience working with survivors of CSA as well as offering supervision to those who work with survivors, such as Rape Crisis.
I have worked extensively with those who cannot meet face to face, due to distance, illness or anxiety and prefer to speak on the telephone.
I have worked as a trainer for fifteen years. I have designed and delivered short courses (evening, one or two days) as well as year long programmes of weekly workshop style interactive lessons leading to professional and academic qualification. The learners have been at all levels, from workers in social care settings to MA level psychotherapy and counselling trainees to practicing qualified psychotherapists and counsellors. I have both led and also managed workshops for other practitioners in a retreat setting. My approach is experiential, accessible and containing, and my material is tailor made to the learners and setting where it is delivered.
