My Approach

I am an Integrative psychotherapist. Drawing from a number of psychotherapeutic perspectives, I tailor make my work with you to who you are and what you bring. You might choose to do therapy because you wish to understand yourself better, to build resilience or to make changes and to take action. I will engage with you by enquiring deeply in order to recognise and acknowledge what you have lived through and how you see it. Together we will work to expand and deepen an understanding of your life and your story, to shift destructive or unhelpful thoughts and feelings, to create a coherent narrative, perhaps seeing new points of view in order to update what might be an old story or working to find good endings. My main influences are humanistic, psychodynamic and attachment theories.

About Me

I have over thirty years of professional experience. I am practical, compassionate and creative, with a straightforward, friendly and open manner. My approach to therapy recognises the importance of our daily life contexts and takes into account gender, ethnic identities, class, sexuality, health and the political and social spheres. I have lived in four different countries and understand cultural difference from the inside. As well as maintaining a private practice I have worked in a variety of settings over the years, as a consultant, trainer and supervisor.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have skill and interest in working with issues related to the developmental processes of being both younger and older. I work with young adults finding their way and identity in the world as they move away from their families of origin, looking for meaning and and purpose with friends and partners or at work. I also specialise in older people who are seeking to explore or update their sense of purpose, identity, responsibility to and relationships with others as they move to retirement, experience changing family structures and getting nearer to death.
I have lived in four countries and so I understand issues of belonging or isolation, feelings of estrangement, loss or nostalgia, relationships where there are different cultural norms, what it is like to conduct day to day life in a non mother tongue language, the sense of not knowing where or what home is.
Working online is effective, economical in both time and money and allows people in any location to engage in psychotherapy.
I have had many years of experience working with survivors of sexual abuse as well as offering clinical supervision and consultancy to those who work with survivors, such as Rape Crisis.
I have over 30 years of professional experience as an Integrative therapist and supervisor in a wide range of clinical settings. Additionally I have worked as a trainer for fifteen years. I understand and can simply explain theory and methodology and facilitate your linking these to your practice as a therapist. I pay particular attention to your professional development as a therapist, including finding work, pursuing further training, building your professional identity.
