My Approach

My experience as a psychotherapist spans 30 years in both the NHS and private sector. I offer a dependable space to talk about your problems and feelings, confidentially and in confidence.
I listen carefully to your concerns trying to fully understand and experience what it’s like in your shoes. I then consider how to you deal with negative thoughts and feelings you may have. Sometimes in my work, in the endeavor to understand, I try to get to the heart of things. Listening carefully to your problems trying to find out what's causing the difficulties and then helping you to find solutions. As well as listening and discussing important issues with you, I also suggest strategies for resolving problems and, if necessary, help you change your ways of perceiving, or when working with couples consider how your relationship fits for both of you. It can be useful sometimes to teach specific skills to help you tolerate painful emotions, manage relationships more effectively, or generally improve things. As a psychotherapist I treat our conversations as confidential. This means you can trust sharing difficult issues that may be personal or embarrassing.
My work as a psychotherapist has helped to treat a wide range of difficulties, including: anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder, depression, past issues, anger issues, eating disorders, self-esteem, self-harm, stress, trauma, domestic abuse, loss or simply because life feels complicated. Family issues and relationship issues are a particular area that i am highly qualified to help with. My work is underpinned by the latest information on what works and am professionally governed by UKCP codes of ethics and practice

About Me

Sometimes, complexities can be hard to untangle, so conversations together within a safe, supportive framework often helps people untangle issues and find pathways forward. My work is informed by many approaches; systemic, analytical, person-centered, psychodynamic, narrative, solution-focused, cognitive behavioral, attachment and mindfulness theories. To name the various schools, however, I also draw upon influences from many other sources; including; research,  literature, philosophy, the arts and life in general, and perhaps more significantly the conversations I have had with individuals, couples and families that I have worked with over the years.
