My Approach

I have a mixed background of training and experience which includes, mental health nursing, psychodynamic counselling and in more recent years Systemic Family Psychotherapy training. I have worked in both adult and children's services in the NHS for over 30 years .
I hope that I can offer you and/ or other significant people in your life, the support you are seeking, working at your pace, according to your needs and availability.

About Me

All of my adult life I have worked in the caring profession, I have worked in many complex specialist areas within the NHS and hope that I can bring this to my private work in a relatable way. I view psychological support as being a long term investment alongside challenging times, life events that occur for us all, as well as being helpful when there is an immediate need/point of crisis.
I can work in a variety of ways, with individuals, families, adults, young people.

I work with

  • Children and young people
  • Companies
  • Couples
  • Families
  • Groups

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have a diploma in stress and anger management (2009) in previous years I co- facilitated anger and anxiety management groups using a cognitive behavioural approach. Supporting people to make sense of their anger issues, triggers, stressors that contribute to this and their long standing relationship to anger and seeing this change over time is very fulfilling.
I have spent many years working with loss and grief issues in groups and with individuals and with families affected. We know that this relates to our earlier experiences of attachment possible trauma/s experienced. Having space to talk about this in a trusting space helps us to make sense of the grieving process and unresolved issues around grief. Loss of a person, a pet, an environment and even loss of an ideal of how we may have imagined our life would be, needs to be considered with care and sensitivity.
I am always wanting to build on my knowledge and understanding about difference, similarity, privilege and power through the lens of culture according to the persons individual experience. I'm also very interested in the wider contextual issues like society's beliefs about difference.
I have a lot of experience of working with trauma, which is crucial within my NHS role, in terms of understanding the many complex trauma's like developmental trauma, trauma that has occurred in earlier life but also life events that can occur later in life .
