My Approach

In the busy-ness of the modern world, psychotherapy offers the chance to bring about meaningful change in our lives. It is rare to have a confidential space – away from our lives, families, and work – to explore difficult feelings and experiences. Therapy gives permission for us to talk about whatever we need to. It can also allow reconnection to hope, humour and passion. I offer therapy as a space to explore where you are at – what it is bringing you now and the change you are hoping for.

About Me

As an integrative psychotherapist I believe that human beings strive to be well and that the relationship between client and therapist can be a key source for change, self-acceptance and healing. Early relationships are significant because they influence our subsequent expectations for, and ways of being in, relationships with others.

I offer short- and long-term therapy face-to-face and/or online via Zoom. I am also trained in work with the arts (art, clay, movement, music, poetry, puppetry, sand tray as well as dreams and metaphor), so this can be part of our work together if this is of interest to you. Feel free to call or email me to explore working together and if you have any concerns or questions.

Areas I work with:
-Anger management & conflict
-Anxiety, stress & feeling overwhelmed
-Change & transitions
-Emotional, physical & sexual abuse
-Family & relationship conflict issues
-Feeling isolated and stuck
-Diverse gender & sexual identities
-Grief, loss & bereavement
-Relationship, sex and intimacy
-Self-esteem & self confidence
-Stress & feeling overwhelmed
-Workplace issues, including burnout

In addition to my private practice, I am a faculty member at the Institute for Arts and Therapy in Education (IATE), working as an examiner, tutor and reflective group practice facilitator as well as teaching sessions on power, intersectionality, dance/movement and the transition from student to becoming a therapist. I also teach a 12-week gender, sex and sexuality module at HOMA Therapy Centre.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Aggressive interruptions to how we meaningfully connect to other people - whether it is emotional, physical and/or sexual abuse - can be traumatic in the moment and stay in our bodies and minds throughout our lives. Often the experience of abuse - particularly over time - leads to a distorted, low sense of self-worth and being unconsciously drawn towards abusive people, situations and relationships. Therapy is an opportunity to reconnect to these experience, own them and to be a safe place in which healing can take place.
I have over 20 years' experience working with gender and sexual diversity in different roles - as a therapist as well as a teacher, consultant, youth worker/manager, author and presenter designing and delivering conferences, training, presentations, workshops and events for therapists and other professionals. In 2017 I published an article in the BACP University and College Counselling journal about re-emergent gender and sexual identities amongst young people (see https://www.bacp.co.uk/bacp-journals/university-and-college-counselling/september-2017/young-people-not-straight-not-narrow) & in 2022 co-wrote a chapter on queer children in Queer Psychotherapy (https://www.karnacbooks.com/product/queering-psychotherapy/96320). As a therapist I work with people of all sexualities and gender identities, including working with trans, non-binary and/or queer identified folk. Relationships - firstly with ourselves, and then with others - are the key to how we experience the world and the quality of our lives, whether it is friendships, intimate relationships or one-off connections with people. I encourage everyone I work with to explore current relationships and how early and family relationship experiences may show up and impact on our expectations and experiences of being in relationships with others in the our lives now
