My Approach

My style is Integrative and Transpersonal. Clients often come to me because they have lost meaning and purpose in their life and relationships. Together we explore what is causing distress and where life feels stuck or blocked. I support my clients in finding the answers within themselves in order to enable sustainable growth and lasting self-confidence. How would you really like to experience your life and your relationships and what is in the way of this?

Over the years I have created tried and tested methods for working with - anxiety, self-doubt, fear, stress and worry. This is in the form of exercises and mapping techniques, which provide a quick way to see what is going on and then how to shift beyond whatever is causing you distress. Others areas I have developed in my practice include how to work with the inner child, which is very transformative and ways in which to explore the nature of the heart. This is a very powerful technique and came about having experienced that most of our difficulties, challenges and disappointments stem from a broken heart so this offers a creative way to both see our wounds more clearly and how we can heal ourselves.

In my work with couples we draw up a relationship map. With this you get to see what makes each other tick, why they might behave or react in certain ways and where the areas of conflict are. What you might bring to the table which is both helpful and unhelpful. We then explore new ways to communicate, understanding about what brought you together and appreciate each others' model of 'what love looks like'. This is made up of everything you learned growing up (good and bad), which drives and informs all your patterns and choices.

About Me

I offer Psychotherapy for LGBTQ+ individuals and couples and have over 15 years experience working with; anxiety, depression, social anxiety, stress, relationships, low self-esteem, self-doubt, obsessive negative thinking, navigating open relationships, sex and sexuality. I have an MA in Psychotherapy and an Art and Design background.

Before training as a therapist I worked within the creative industry for over 20 years designing interiors and exhibitions. Creativity plays a big part in my work with clients. I specialise in helping you find your truth beyond whatever conditioning and limitations your past experiences taught you about yourself and your relationships.

The Transpersonal refers to going beyond the personal realities of life to understand that there is much more to you and to life than meets the eye. For over thirty years I have explored many different spiritual practices from Buddhism to Sufism and non-duality. I am an explorer rather than a seeker and interested in independent thinking and in each individual discovering their own truth. Questions are more interesting to me than answers. It's the mysteries of life that fascinate me and what it means to be a human being. What is it that makes your heart sing? What is it that brings peace and joy to you life? What is getting in the way of this?

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have worked with anxiety intensively over several decades as a result of dealing with and overcoming my own experiences of anxiety, self-doubt and fear. In my practice I work with generalised anxiety, social anxiety, insomnia, stress, worry, low self-esteem, work pressure, anxiety about the future, existential despair, aging and trauma. Anxiety, as I see it, is just information and points to the deeper difficulties that often result in feelings of powerlessness, vulnerability and withdrawal. In therapy we discuss your specific experiences of anxiety and together explore how best to understand what is going on and how to develop inner resilience and coping strategies. The aim of this is in order for you to feel more free and at ease within yourself, your life and relationships.
When your life feels very stuck, heavy and dark talking things through with someone like me can bring about some light and ease. Sometimes my work around depression involves understanding feelings of lack and the loss of meaning and purpose. Also, how to enable new energy and motivation when life may feel flat, full of despair and hopelessness. It may take some time but I know it is possible to move on, feel better and re-build and re-imagine your life.
This may include couples work - both same sex, poly and heterosexual. Often my work explores relationships between family members, repeating patterns and roles that may have been taken on that no longer serve. I help you understand what your own blueprint of 'what love looks like' is, where this comes from and how aspects of it can be redesigned. I also explore abusive and neglectful relationships. It may also be a case of looking at loneliness and isolation as well as sex and sexuality. Much of my work with clients involves helping them to find new ways to communicate, which is particularly helpful for couples who are stuck in conflict but also for individuals who may struggle to assert themselves or ask for what they need.
Much of my work is with LGBTQ+ individuals and couples. Often our work together is around finding confidence and self-belief beyond trauma and shame and towards inner truths of strength, beauty, exuberance, creativity, security, peace and joy. We also explore new models of relationships and sexuality.
I help clients explore the differences between head, heart and gut using the imagination in order to explore and create your own navigational system which can work alongside other practices such as meditation. I have over 30 years experience exploring this field.
