My Approach

I emphasise choice in my work , I offer 1 free assessment hour to see if if the client and myself feel its appropriate to work with each other. I have been in practice for over 22 years and I am always humbled by the courage people who enter into working with a therapist have . I am equally convinced that talking therapies can be a life changer and a life saver for some people . However it has to be the right person, if we both feel there is a chance of rapport that it will be a "good fit" then the work with commitment by both therapist and client can work. . I try to keep my work and manner of speaking has uncomplicated as possible. .

About Me

I have been in practice has a Counsellor since 1998 , I was working has a Police Officer and more specifically has a relief Coroners Officer, when my interest was aroused by working with bereaved families . This with the support of my wife led me to qualify has a Counsellor in 2000 and Psychotherapist in 2013 , my 30 years service with the Police in North Yorkshire being a member of the Critical Incident Stress Debriefing team (CISD) and working with the local Hospice Bereavement Support service from 198 to 2017. Has led to a lot of work on bereavement . Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

My work has a Coroners Officer led me to be involved with families and individuals , who in many cases gave me some positive feedback, that made me want to understand more about process of communication especially at difficult and traumatic times. I have worked extensively at a local Hospice has part of a Bereavement Support service from 1998 to 2017. I worked with Children, young adults and adults during my time their.
The Covid restrictions has led me to work with individuals referred to me by one of the Armed Forces and Blue light charities predominantly , my own experience of being in traumatic situations has resulted in me having a built up a range of experiences , that I feel enable me to break down some barriers with some clients who are otherwise "Hard to Reach."
During my Police service , I worked on the 1984 Miners strike and coming from a Mining Community I experienced the trauma of divided loyalties and the tensions and stress that this can cause., I worked on a Stress Debriefing Team with the Police and also has a self defence instructor teaching not only unarmed restraint techniques but also the affects that stressful situations can cause.
I have worked in an organization near to where I live receiving referrals on all issues on workplace dificulties
