My Approach

My ethos is integrative in the sense that it emanates from an existential, philosophically informed approach with experience and education that encompasses behavioural, cognitive and humanistic elements. I apply this experience drawing from various modalities to deliver the most holistic, effective therapy I can offer. For example, clients presenting with eating disorders who have experienced complex trauma, a combination of therapeutic treatment will be planned which may direct our work towards dealing with underlying unprocessed events through EMDR in conjunction with psychotherapy and targeted ED/nutritional support. The holistic component of my work means working with you as a 'whole being' in the context of your life, which will include life history, your current lifestyle and balance, nutrition, exercise and sleep to determine how you are being impacted by your unique situation, with practical solutions co-created along our psychotherapeutic journey.

About Me

I have over twenty years experience working in a variety of mental health settings in the UK and Channel Islands, including hospitals, clinics and schools. I find my work to be incredibly meaningful and am highly committed towards facilitating choice and positive change. I work face-to-face and via Skype/FaceTime/Zoom with individuals and couples, with an ethos that inspires me to work compassionately through most of the issues life throws at us, including relational trauma and loss. I am an IATP Registered, Certified Level II Trauma Practitioner and believe as humans we all experience developmental and/or relational trauma, no matter how much we may overlook or minimise the impact of events that leave lasting emotional scars and negative beliefs about ourselves. There are reasons why we suffer from anxiety, stress or relationship issues and psychotherapeutic analysis should ideally be an enlightening journey that leads us towards living life intentionally. Short term therapy can be very successful relying on tools such as EMDR, which is highly effective for trauma resolution over a shorter time frame and ultimately I integrate my experience depending upon a client's specific needs.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have a special interest in eating disorders and have achieved Master Practitioner status in Eating Disorders and Nutritional Interventions. I find it beneficial for clients to observe all factors impacting upon their well-being, with a holistic view that may mean attending to nutrition, exercise, relationships and work/life balance. I have specific training to work with complex eating disorders, which are so often connected to past and present emotional matters and early trauma. We all rely on coping mechanisms and will work together towards shifting a negative mindset into a more positive and healthy state of being.
As a RUL accredited Mediator with an interest in systemic therapy, I am interested in supporting and resolving complex couples issues and family dynamics. No matter what issues we face, there is always the background of existential anxiety and choice to contend with – or creating new possibilities. I subscribe to the BACP code’s highest level of ethical practice and thoroughly enjoy the continuum of education in this field, to ensure I have the ability to provide clients with the best possible outcomes in the context of their own lifestyle and the preservation of choice.
