My Approach

A family and systemic psychotherapy approach works with individuals, families and couples who are experiencing difficulties in their relationships. Sessions involve those that are important in your life, such as partners, parents, children, siblings, extended family, friends, and carers. This approach supports you to take different positions to understand each other and enable positive changes in relationships and to improve communication. It also considers the impact of your circumstances, such as childhood experiences, power, financial hardship, race, religion, and culture. This approach focuses on strengths, resilience, and empowerment. The overall aim of this approach is to support everyone’s health and wellbeing, as a whole.

As every family is unique, I draw on a range of systemic theories, models, and approaches. I enjoy working flexibly to suit everyone’s needs, so I adapt my approach to enable all to be involved. I am very respectful, so I seek to encourage those I work with to reflect on our work together as I am open to adapt or change my approach to make the sessions more useful. My approach focuses on enabling us to work together and develop a shared understanding of your goals for intervention.

Sessions are usually for an hour and can range from weekly to fortnightly, depending on the needs of those involved.

I am currently only offering online therapy, usually Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evenings.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have worked in children and family services for twelve years. This has given me a wealth of experience and knowledge in supporting children, young people and adults who have suffered abuse. This includes family abuse, domestic violence, and traumatic experiences. I am passionate about supporting those who have experienced abuse, to enable you to process this in a supportive space and to help you slowly build your strength and resilience.
I am passionate about supporting people’s emotional wellbeing, which can be impacted by trauma and issues such as separation, loss, domestic violence and drugs and alcohol. I am very experienced at supporting those that have relationship difficulties whilst also managing their own mental health and psychological wellbeing.
I have worked with children, young people and families for nineteen years. In the last twelve years of my practice, I have focused on supporting the welfare of individuals, couples, parents, and families as a whole. I am very passionate about bringing people together to address issues and difficulties. I am aware that this can be difficult and highly emotive at times, however I am very experienced at managing emotions and differences of opinion, whilst also remaining calm, maintaining boundaries and honesty. I work hard to understand the feelings and views of all the people that I support. I work collaboratively by ensuring that everyone involved is given a voice to express their views and I ensure that they are involved in discussions and decisions made.
