My Approach

I am a psychodynamically trained therapist and I draw upon these ways of thinking when working with someone's inner world, in a curious and explorative way. I have also trained using solution focused strategies and I feel the two models complement each other rather well, in as much as one focuses on the inner world and the other on the external world. I am reflective in my sessions with clients and although am happy to explore strategies, my emphasis is more on contributing to you deepening your understanding of yourself and what may be underlying some of your difficulties. This I believe strengthens and deepens autonomy which allows for greater compassion for self and therefore others, providing resilience and robustness.

About Me

The process of deciding to seek therapy and then actually going can be a turning point in life. Finding your own agency through exploration of yourself is energising. Something I feel I experienced when I switched to working in the mental health field from an accounts and communication background back in 2001, when family difficulties and dynamics seemed incomprehensible, and I wanted and needed to understand more. Whilst completing my Psychology and Educational Studies degree as a mature student, I worked in psychiatric wards. During my clinical training thereafter, I worked with students at a University, whom I continue to work with to this day, although in a slightly different capacity, as a Specialist Mentor. Having two working positions in my early training allowed for my continued involvement at a Children's Centre where I was a Family Support worker and then later a Psychodynamic Therapist, working with Parents. Eventually I left to join NHS Primary Care Counselling, where I remained for another 10 years and it was during this time I also grew a small private practice. Since 2019, I have developed an interest in running therapeutic groups which I now co create and co lead with another experienced colleague. I continue to run a small private practice both in Oxford and in London, the latter is where I also work with and supervise trainee Psychotherapists at a University. I have lots of experience in working with a broad range of ages and I am excited to be part of a profession that continues to develop its understanding of the body mind synergy, through neuroscience.
