I am skilled in all areas of psychosexual therapy including male and female sexual difficulties and dysfunctions (interest/desire; arousal disorders, erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, orgasm difficulties, sexual pain disorders); sexuality, orientation and gender identity issues; out of control sexual behaviour/sexual addiction; difficulties due to trauma, especially sexual trauma. The list is endless as each of my clients are unique and bring with them their individual difficulties and issues, therefore treatment plans are implemented with the individual in mind.
Working with individuals and couples using an approach looking at problems from physical, psychological and social viewpoints, in essence offering integrated therapy and sexual rehabilitation. I combine my nursing (gynaecological cancer nurse specialist) and psychosexual therapy expertise and use a variety of approaches including CBT, acceptance therapy, embodied therapy and mindfulness. I am trauma informed and LGBTQ sensitive.
I am also skilled at helping people who have experienced trauma in their lives. Trauma work is a specialist field and it helps individuals develop strategies for trauma recovery for those struggling physically, emotionally or psychologically after traumatic events (single, complex or adult survivors of childhood trauma). Integrating coaching skills into all areas of my work also enables my clients to identify and work towards their life goals.
I have also gained a national reputation and expertise on the effects of cancer diagnosis and treatments on a person’s sexuality and sex life. I present across the country at scientific and educational meetings for health professionals, and at patient/advocacy groups; I write national guidance and education frameworks to address sexual issues, write patient information including web sites and booklets and give expert advice for various cancer charities (Macmillan, Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust, Target Ovarian Cancer, Eve Appeal).
