My Approach

I am a classically Client Centered Psychotherapist.

I work from the 1957 model as described by Rogers in his classic book "CLIENT CENTERED THERAPY"

i am none directive in my approach.

None directive is what I am not. But the term "Emancipatory Psychotherapy verses alienating control" perfectly describes my up to date aproach, Perhaps now more than it has ever been.

I follow my clients in that gray area just behind the analytical therapies. reversing the I-thou of Buber to the thou -I of client centered.

About Me

I learned my trade in the shpyards as a Mechanical fitter. In the engineering world I learned about interactions and people as a trade unionist. I went to Lancaster University where I did a BA (Hons) in History going on to do an MA in historical research. I lectured in History for Lancaster and the Central University of Lancashire, having experienced an acrimonious divorce I ended up with nothing and was a single parent for ten years. In that time i gained a few A levels and studies at night school `I stumbled across an introduction to Psychotherapies, which i was taken by discovering my true vocation. I attended introduction to, level one and two diploma in counselling. I went to leeds metropolitan 2002-2006 and attended a four year course to become a Client Centered Psychotherapist under the UKCP and a member of the UPCA since 2002. I started to practice in 2002 Qualifying in 2004 graduated in 2006 and as the Psytherapist for Risdale estates established a theraputic intervention in the sealed units alongside Psychiatry and psychology for ten years. I did go to Manchester to study under Paul Wilkins but he retired shortly after and i did not complete my Ph.D.
I now practice privately taking approximatly 15-20 clients a week. I am in excess of over 21,000 hours contact.

I work with

  • Couples
  • Families
  • Groups
  • Individuals

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Anxiety as an everyday issue. Anxiety is a natural state of human being, but as the fraudian explaination of an "unknown fear" is in my interventions, the incongruence that brings clients to my practice.
I trained with South cumbria rape and abuse and worked with them for 5 years throughout my training with the UKCP
