My Approach

I'm an Integrative Psychotherapist , originally trained in Psychosynthesis and integrating other approaches into my work - see below for details of these. I've over 30 years experience of working therapeutically with people as individuals and in groups. I have many therapeutic 'tools' in my toolbox, but am always guided by my client as to what works for them as an individual.

Everyone seeking therapy wants to find relief from painful feelings, change difficult situations in their lives for the better, find greater contentment and engage more fully in their lives. I have seen that we all have the ability and resources to find greater freedom and happiness in our lives. I've found that one of the most important elements of successful therapy is that the approach is tailored to, and makes sense to you, the client. So at the heart of the way I work is flexibility and being guided by my client, their goals, resources, preferences and what works for them as unique individuals.

I currently work online.

About Me

I have been working with people one to one as a therapist for over thirty years. I offer a flexible and friendly approach which draws on wide experience of different therapeutic approaches to suit my client's need and goals.

Over those years I've integrated many different therapy perspectives and techniques into the way I practise. I like to foster people's strengths and aim to work with them to uncover resources they may not even realise they possess. I have found that with some time to think, people can discover their own unique solutions to the difficulties they face, however deep and challenging they may be. I see therapy as a collaborative endeavour where 'no one size fits all' but it must be tailored to the individual. Above all the proof the the pudding in therapy is that the changes the person wants in their life can be seen to be happening.

Therapeutic perspectives I bring into my work are psychosynthesis, CBT and ACT, Mindfulness, creative work, Self Compassion therapy, Attachment Informed EMDR, Solutions Focused Therapy, Positive Psychology, Kiloby Inquiries, Internal Family Systems informed, psychodynamic perspectives and I've also trained in groupwork.

I also work with groups and am a qualified supervisor experienced in working in different settings. I work using 'supervisee centred supervision' being guided by the needs and wants of my supervisees and encouraging them to develop and work from their strengths. I'm also able to offer a wide variety of perspectives on client work.

I enjoy working with people short term, and can offer single sessions, brief contracts or longer term if that is preferred.

I offer a free 20 minute chat by phone so you can ask any questions you may have, or you can email me. I welcome questions and enquiries.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I specialise in working with anxiety issues and will use whichever approach suits my client.
I use EMDR and Attachment Informed EMDR for recent and historical trauma.
As a long time meditator myself, I have a particular interest in working with issues of spirituality of any faith or for those who follow a path of secular spirituality.
I've been supervising for 21 years and like to encourage my supervisees to get to know and develop their strengths. I like to think my style is dynamic, interactive and flexible, and tailored to each individual supervisee. I've supervised counsellors and psychotherapists from different modalities and in different settings including private practice, bereavement services, trainee therapists, voluntary agencies and I do both individual and group supervision.
I'm trained in EMDR, a NICE approved therapy for trauma and also use an Internal Family Systems informed approach which I've found also to be very helpful with trauma, particularly complex trauma.
