My Approach

Arranging an initial meeting via my website www.karenwpsychotherapy.co.uk is easy. You will be invited to my rooms in Midhurst for a consultation, where we can discuss how best we can work together and importantly think about your past and present and why you have come to therapy and why now? There is no commitment, and the consultation usually takes about an hour. At the consultation we discuss your expectations of therapy, whether you are best suited to open ended or time limited therapy etc.

About Me

Hello, I am a fully qualified Psychoanalytic Psychodynamic Adult Psychotherapist. I have experience of working within the NHS, University Counselling Departments and London clinics, both face to face and via Zoom.
I understand how difficult it can be to take the first step into therapy. However, by understanding our past, having room to reflect on our experiences and how it influences our way of living in the present we can discover how things can be different, leading to a more fulfilling life. My experience has shown me how much anxiety, depression and trauma can effect our way of living and the negative impact it has upon our health both mentally and physically.
We are often unaware of the issues that cause us problems. It may be trauma related which includes childhood neglect, physical or sexual abuse. Or perhaps there is an acute event such as loss of a loved one or something else that is impacting you now which is causing anxiety or/and depression for example.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Feeling anxious from time to time is a normal and natural part of the body’s defense system. However, you might find your anxiety impinging upon your day to day life which affects your mental health but also has negative implications upon our body. Symptoms such as tension, insomnia, digestive issues and many more are recognized as a link to anxiety, Therapy can help you identify the root of these problems and help restore both mental and physical wellbeing.
Depression is one of the most common mental health problems in the UK, and still very much misunderstood. There are many causes of depression and the use of anti-depressant medication is widely used. However more and more GP's are now recommending therapy rather than simple medication or a mixture of both. It is important to discover what is contributing to your depression, so you can make positive changes in your life.
Sexual abuse is more prevalent than we may think. Often there is a lot of shame involved and clients may feel guilty that they brought this abuse upon themselves. Being able to discuss in confidence, with a sensitive trained therapist can bring enormous relief and acceptance of yourself.
Many of my clients have problems originating from traumatic childhood experiences. Trauma comes under the guise of many experiences; abandonment, abuse, neglect, family alcoholism and many more. By undertaking therapy in a safe place with a trained therapist I can help you begin your journey into a safer and more secure way of being. There can be a lot of shame linked to childhood trauma so it is important to find a skilled therapist who can help you understand and accept the past which will enable you grown and ultimately increase self esteem.
