My Approach

I am what’s termed an ‘integrative therapist’ which means I combine tools, techniques and ideas from a range of sources, depending on the needs of my client. My work is also ‘solutions focused’ which means I help people to achieve their specific goals, and typically work with people for a short period of time – on average between 6 and 12 sessions, although some clients elect to come back after a break and others seek a longer term relationship.
Many people want to know what to expect from therapy so I have outlined my typical approach below.
The First Session :
In the first session we will spend some time exploring your current situation and clarifying the things you want to address. This helps me to understand your issues and goals and for us to identify the practical changes you wish to achieve. We will also agree how many times you we’ll meet, how frequently, and when progress should be reviewed. This leads to an agreed plan of action.

Subsequent Sessions:
In each session we will explore your issues and goals using a variety of NLP methods and other therapy tools as appropriate. For example, you might be asked to recall an event in your life and discuss the images, sounds and feelings that you experience when you think about it now. By doing this I can help you learn how to change the way in which you ‘store the memory’, and this can change the way you feel about the event.

Between Sessions:
If appropriate you will be asked to carry out activities between sessions to help you with your goals.
For example, this might mean
 thinking from a new perspective about something you have experienced;
 trying out a new way of behaving;
 exploring different ways of reacting to your thoughts and feelings.

Sessions are booked for one hour at a time to suit you. Whilst it is best to meet face to face I understand that this is not always possible or convenient so I am pleased to arrange Skype or Zoom sessions with my clients. My therapy room is not accessible by public transport but there is plenty of parking and it is wheelchair accessible.
