My approach to therapy is underpinned by modern thinking, training and research focused on exploring how we, our immediate families and others get by in the world. I have worked in NHS settings, yet my belief about being human is that when we struggle with life’s challenges we are not broken, ill or in need of ‘fixing’.
I offer my clients a therapeutic relationship, founded on exploring their experiences. This approach acknowledges and values feelings and needs; enabling a movement towards a healthy flexible way of regarding ourselves and others.
My humanistic approach draws on the Person-Centered Therapy of Carl Rogers, Fritz Perls' Gestalt Therapy and concepts arising from the Transactional Analysis approach pioneered by Eric Berne.
I find common themes of human experience arise in my practice and often reach for the insights of Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell in considering myth and archetype. I am a big fan of the approach to Non-Violent Communication developed by Marshall Rosenberg, an inspirational thinker and teacher of love and giving in human relationships. In working with couples and small groups I am drawn to the thinking of Cecchin, de Shazer, Yalom and Bion. For more information on these inspirations please visit my website.
As Isaac Newton wrote... “If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.”
Please do call me to discuss any needs you may have.
I am a Humanistic therapist with experience of working with a wide range of issues with the NHS and in private work. I have a warm friendly approach and aim to provide a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space in which you can begin to explore the issues troubling you. Central to my practice as a counsellor is building an accepting, trusting relationship in which you can explore your deepest self.
My first degree was in Electronic Engineering at the University of Leeds, my second degree in Humanistic Counselling from the University of Chichester. I have a postgraduate Diploma in Counselling Supervision. I am accredited with the UKAHPP and Registered with UKCP and the PSA.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
