About Me

We will meet for an initial consultation session to talk about the issues that have led you to seek help from a therapist. Often people are a little bit anxious if this is the first time they have contacted a therapist. This first session is an opportunity to reassure you, for you to decide whether we can work together and to receive responses to your questions.
I work with adults as individuals, couples and in groups short or long term face-to-face who enter with a range of issues including those with relationships, work-stress, adverse early childhood experiences, depression, anxiety, stress, shame/guilt, trauma, ADHD, Autism, bereavement, eating disorders, age-related issues, health related issues, bullying and emotional distress. Therapy helps people improve their wellbeing and relationships, enhance self-expression, gain a stronger sense of self, resolve conflicts, increase personal knowing and self-understanding, provide for more options in life and increase their potential. I work with the whole person, spontaneously following your agenda as the therapeutic embodied relationship unfolds. Themes from your life story emerge naturally in a process of getting to know yourself and your reasons for attending therapy.
Trained and qualified in person-centred and psychodynamic approaches I offer an integrative relational practice using verbal and non-verbal approaches employing the arts at times as appropriate. I have been working in private practice for over 25 years exploring the BodyMindSpirit and the healing relationship. I am also a trainer and researcher in this field. Recent research has been with people suffering persistent bodily symptoms such as fibromyalgia, chronic pain, IBS chronic fatigue etc. for which tests and scans come back without a diagnosis and so which do not appear to have a medical explanation.
Once a relationship has been established between us it may be possible on occasions to conduct some sessions remotely via skype or telephone. There is a sliding scale for fees. Sessions are 50 minutes during weekdays. The consulting room is quiet, private, with plenty of parking and is wheelchair accessible. As a psychotherapist with BUPA and AXA PPP I welcome referrals from people with BUPA/AXA health-care membership, whether via a company or as an individual.
I offer supervision and training to qualified psychotherapists and counsellors in various health-related organisations. If you choose to work using authentic movement as the medium our sessions may be spent talking together and with you moving from within (sometimes from a sensory experience) with eyes open or closed as you choose and me acting as your stable witness. Resulting imagery is worked with. I notice your breath, non-verbal gestures, postures and other signals. I conduct circles in authentic movement https://authenticmovementcirclesblog.wordpress.com for people interested in embodied professional and personal development and a training for professional therapists wishing to become group conductors.
