My Approach

My approach is integrative, which means that I draw from a number of philosophies and theories and these inform my practice. These include systems theory, intersubjectivity, attachment, psychodynamic, object relations, cognitive, behavioural, compassion-focussed, among others. I believe the therapeutic relationship to be the most significant factor for change and growth, and that in talking with an attuned, present, non-judgement other, we can connect with parts of the self that may have been denied, neglected, hurt, abused, traumatised, allowing the whole self to heal, thrive and to flourish.

About Me

I am an Integrative Psychotherapist, with 13+ years working privately and in Primary Healthcare. I am also a Clinical Supervisor.

I offer both short term counselling (to work on a specific, or current, worry, difficulty or distress) and long term psychotherapy to explore deeper, underlying issues that shape our identity, our personal values and beliefs and inform the choices we make. I work to increase awareness and understanding of the self (developmentally) and of the self in relation to other(s) (relationally). I believe the relationship with have with our self or with another person, can often a catalyst to seek therapeutic support. The process of therapy fosters growth through understanding, helping us to move forward with our lives.

Exploring our difficulties, questions or uncertainties help make sense of our experiences. Self-reflection and self-awareness increase capacity to 'know' myself, increase self-compassion, and expression of self-needs. A basic human need is for connection, to feel safe in relationships. We have an innate need to be heard, seen, respected, validated, for our relational needs to be 'met' through the development of deeper and more satisfying relationships. Together we explore biological, social, cultural, medical etc factors that inform our sense of being; individual, with others and in the world.

If you are over 18 years old I invite you to speak to me, in confidence, about whatever might be contributing to your emotional distress at this time. Get in touch if you have had previous counselling and want to do some further work. Contact me if you are an 'older' adult impacted by change or transition, eg loss, health, retirement, redundancy.
