My Approach

During my many years of training and practice I have learned to listen with empathy and respect to terribly difficult life stories. It is this careful kind of listening that can calm acute symptoms of anxiety and foster inner strength, even when the wounds of trauma, abuse and neglect run very deep.

If you've never been in counselling or psychotherapy, it can be hard to believe that 'just talking' can be helpful. But if you are anxious, depressed or feeling bad about yourself, you can be profoundly helped by an in-depth conversation in which you find greater understanding, compassion and respect for yourself.

Clinically I work with a range of people and difficulties.  You may present  with symptoms such anxiety, depression, shame, confusion and disconnection from self and others. These are generally indicative of a deeper kind of distress and the work of psychotherapy is to explore what underlies this everyday, sometimes chronic, pain and suffering.

During your healing journey I will invite you to think more clearly and compassionately about yourself, to welcome your emotions, discover meanings and to recognise relational and behavioural patterns.  I will also be interested in how you relate to me and what this may say about how you relate to important others in your life. It is this process of deep exploration which can facilitate psychological growth and in turn lead you to the changes you hope for yourself. Most importantly our work will be one of collaboration based on your agenda, not mine.

I offer both long and shorter term therapy, supporting clients to make informed decisions about the depth and length of their therapy experience with me.  In the shorter term, work is likely solution focussed where you have a clear therapeutic goal in mind. Whereas longer term psychotherapy demands a deeper exploration of the underlying issues contributing to your psychological distress.

I work 'relationally' from an attachment perspective; that is I attempt to understand you through your relational history, primarily with your early caregivers, which may have been traumatic, neglectful, abusive or intrusive. This provides a ‘blue print’ of how you are likely to relate to yourself and others in adulthood.  Through the careful deconstruction of these patterns new ways of relating to yourself and others can emerge.

About Me

Whatever brings you to therapy, whether it be anxiety, depression, trauma, or any other difficulty, I offer a safe, confidential, non-judgmental space for you to share whatever you need. As an experienced humanistic psychotherapist and counsellor, I draw on a number of ideas from the oldest forms of psychotherapy to more contemporary methods of treatment. You don’t get the ‘blank screen’, the silent treatment, which therapy is sometimes known for, you get a therapeutic relationship with inherent warmth, empathy and honesty.

I undertook a rigorous and lengthy training at Metanoia Institute, London where I gained a Masters Degree in Humanistic Psychotherapy, a Post Graduate Diploma in Humanistic Psychotherapy and a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling.

Regular professional supervision and continuing professional development (CPD) are an integral part of my practice. This helps me to stay abreast of current research and developments in the field of psychotherapy.

I am a member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and adhere to their Code of Ethics and Professional Practice (2019) and UKCP Guidelines for Working Online/Remotely (2021).

Alongside clinical practice I am an academic assessor for the Masters Psychotherapy programme at Metanoia Institute, London.
