My Approach

Debbie works holistically using an integrated humanistic model of therapy which emphasises people’s potential. Transpersonal psychotherapy embraces the psychodynamic theories and blends them with the existential, Jungian, object relations and attachment theories. Debbie's work with eating disorders and training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) influences her core work. These tools give a dimensional and relational approach to the therapy because Debbie is able to work with the needs of her clients to bring the blend of therapies that best meet her client's needs. Debbie is able to adjust her sessions and processes to work with short term goal orientated therapy and longer term individuation and integration work. Issues include:
Depression
Anxiety including generalised anxiety and panic disorder
ASD/ADD/ADHD
Hopelessness
Anger
Bereavement; Loss
Relationship issues (among family, friends, colleagues, partners) affairs, betrayals, separation and divorce
Family Issues
Low Self-esteem
Workplace and job issues
Troubling past / childhood experiences
Work / Life Balance and dissatisfaction concerns
Life Distress
Dread and Fear
Sleep, diet and more

EATING DISORDERS: Along side her general practice Debbie specialised in eating disorders. She offers: triage, assessment, treatment and reporting when requested. Debbie is a registered practitioner with the National Center for Eating Disorders and is a Master Practitioner. Her work with eating disorders incorporates Binge Eating Disorder, Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, obesity, compulsive eating and eating distress (includes weight loss and shape concerns).

AUTISM: Debbie has worked with complex adult clients and over the last 10 years has begun to recognise some of that complexity is how autism presents within the psychotherapeutic relationship. She has endeavored to adapt therapy to work with autistic people to support their well-being and is currently doing a PhD to research this more closely. Whilst Debbie does not do assessment she works with NHS colleagues and private individuals who are able to offer this service. Alternatively, assessment is available by referral through your GP.

Debbie works with adults, parents and young people (17+) presenting with general psychotherapeutic issues and more specialist areas like eating disorders and autism/autistic spectrum disorder (ASD). Debbie holds clinics on Thursdays and Fridays in Finchampstead, Wokingham close to Reading, Camberley and Basingstoke.

Appointments are held in a quiet ground floor room in Finchampstead (in line with government guidance this is not currently an option) and online. Debbie's role is to facilitate your sessions in ways which respect your values, personal resources and capacity for choice. She provides a safe, confidential space and works within a clear therapeutic contract. You can self-refer for appointments and Debbie works with most health insurance providers with treatment authorisation. Please contact me on 07740 587822 or visit my website for further information.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Debbie has worked with complex adult clients and over the last 10 years has begun to recognise some of that complexity is how autism presents within the psychotherapeutic relationship. She has endeavored to adapt therapy to work with autistic people to support their well-being and is currently doing a PhD to research this more closely. Whilst Debbie does not do assessment she works with NHS colleagues and private individuals who are able to offer this service. Alternatively it is available by referral through your GP.
Debbie has worked with adults with eating disorders since 2001 as a private and NHS clinician. Now, as a private clinician, she works in a multi-disciplinary team with psychiatrist and dietician to support her client's needs, medical monitoring and dietetic changes. The sessions are arranged around the specific needs of the client and their presenting eating disorder. Please inquire for further details.
Mental well-being relies on a holistic approach to physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health. In sessions clients begin to recognise the how difficulties are connected and worked through to support themselves in a way that feels resourceful and meaningful. This may include observing internal dialogue, working with cognitive distortions and self directed hostility. Human beings are made from their life world and this will be explored in therapy to help identify patterns of experience and a sense of agency. Sessions support skill development, ways to understand difficulties and how to apply skills successfully.
