We all experience difficult and challenging times in our lives which can weigh us down, and we are then unable to find a way forward. It takes courage and honesty to accept you need a guiding hand to help you through this.
Central to my approach is to provide the openness, care and responsiveness of a supportive therapeutic relationship. I work with integrity and compassion to help you acknowledge and fully understand the difficulties in your past. The aim is for you to fulfil your current needs and desires so that you can face the future with confidence and a sense of security.
I will help you identify the solutions to your problems, but they will be your solutions.
I am an experienced and fully accredited psychotherapist (CTA) and psychotherapeutic counsellor with an MSc from the Metanoia Institute in London. I have worked for many years in the charity sector and also have a private counselling and psychotherapy practice in Guildford. I provide one-to-one therapy for adults and couples for short or long-term therapy. In couples counselling I work evenhandedly to help you both understand where your difficulties lie, whilst discovering more about yourselves as individuals and in your relationship with each other. As a registered member of UKCP I abide by their Ethical Framework for Good Practice; I am also a member of registered BACP, EATA and IARTA.
My training and experience have enabled me to work with a diverse group of people dealing with a wide range of psychological and emotional issues. These include anxiety and depression, various forms of addiction , relationship problems, complex bereavement issues, grief and loss. I have particular interest in working with childhood difficulties, trauma and abuse, attachment and identity issues, panic attacks, neglect and abandonment . I work long term with complex issues of obsessive compulsive disorder and borderline personality disorder. In addition, I was a Samaritan for 10 years, holding a senior role in my local branch. As such I am experienced in addressing suicidal thoughts and self-harm. I find that a lack of self-esteem can lie at the heart of many problems.
At the first session we can discuss how best we can work together. Please do get in touch.
