My Approach

How we feel in our lives should never be compared to how others feel in theirs. Our experiences and our reactions to what life throws at us are our own and nobody else's.
Some people come to see me for therapy after a breakdown of a relationship or a bereavement or perhaps even just the loss of an idea of how things are turning out. Sometimes feelings of anxiety or feelings of purposelessness can seem unsurmountable and inexplicable. Some people find it hard to make a decision or to make sense of things in their lives . Others feel although on the surface they have everything they need there is still a feeling that something is not right.
Psychotherapy offers a space in which to feel space to talk about these concerns and to sit with a therapist someone who is trained to be nonjudgemental and who isn't part of your everyday life. Sharing this experience can help wrestle with more philosophical questions around where we see ourselves in this world and to consider what it means to be human.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Changing parts of your life is never easy and acknowledging time passing. Empty nest syndrome menopause and children leaving home, divorce and partners retiring is often a larger thing in ones life than expected.
I see clients who are experiencing loss of any kind. Such as losing a parent, a child or experiencing miscarriage and a stillbirth. Loss is an experience that we will all have in our lives and embracing the grief and pain in each situation can change as it is shared in a safe place.
Life doesn't not always give you want you want sometimes and it is hardest ever to deal with unexpected loss of what was expected.
Social media, climate change, career choices leaving home ,choosing university, making new friends
Post-traumatic stress is always relative to the individual. To experience as stressful situation can affect everyone in different ways. Listening is fundamental to working and paying special attention to feedback as to how the clients body is response is.
