I am a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist and EMDR therapist with experience with trauma, dissociative disorders including dissociative identity disorder, body image related issues including body dysmorphic disorder, eating disorders and self-harm, as well as other anxiety related issues and depression. I am also interested in helping those experiencing chronic pain to process emotional distress which may be preventing, or complicating, recovery from physical health issues. I work with adults and young people on an open-ended basis.
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy means we will be looking to understand the way childhood events and family dynamics may be influencing thoughts and behaviour, relationships and choices. Understanding how the past effects the present, and beginning to recognise patterns, means we are better equipped to change the choices we make. Learning to respond to negative thoughts from a more compassionate perspective will help to make lasting change a real possibility.
I originally worked in senior NHS healthcare management before training as a psychotherapist. I am the Clinical Director of the mental health charity Still the Hunger, where we offer individual therapy and support groups, including a monthly group for BDD in association with the BDD Foundation.
Therapy takes place within the beautiful setting of a large Edwardian house near the centre of Reading, close to M4 junction 11. Free parking is available on site. There is a good local bus route, 11 mins from Reading train station.
I am registered with The Private Practice Register and approved by the following insurance companies: Aviva, AXA PPP Healthcare.
