My Approach

Attachment Informed EMDR, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Group Therapy

About Me

I am a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist and Europe Accredited EMDR Practitioner with extensive experience working with trauma, CPTSD, dissociative disorders (including DID), body dysmorphic disorder, chronic pain, including fibromyalgia and ME, as well as other anxiety related issues and depression. I work with adults on an open-ended basis individually and/or with group therapy.
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy means we will be looking to understand the way childhood events and family dynamics may be influencing thoughts and behaviour, relationships and choices. Understanding how the past effects the present, and beginning to recognise the all too familiar patterns, means being better better equipped to make healthier choices. Learning how to respond to negative and critical thoughts from a more compassionate perspective will help to make lasting change a real possibility.
I originally worked in senior NHS healthcare management before training as a psychotherapist. These days I am Clinical Director of the mental health charity Still the Hunger, where we offer individual and group therapy, including running a free monthly support group for BDD which I run in association with the BDD Foundation. The charity also has an office still in Reading, from where a colleague of mine continues to offer in person therapy - please see our website www.stillthehunger.co.uk for more information.

Most of my weekly appointments take place on-line via Zoom, but I also work in person from Somerset, as well as running intensive residential EMDR retreats, which can be for a one full day right up to ten days in Somerset. For in person therapy, Oakhill is 14 miles south of Bath, 6 miles from Wells.

I am registered with The Private Practice Register and approved by the following insurance companies: Aviva and AXA PPP Healthcare.

  • Individuals
  • Private healthcare referrals

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have an interest in working with chronic pain conditions, such as from spinal conditions, fibromyalgia and FND (functional neurological disorder). I receive referrals from local NHS and private pain management hospitals for EMDR for the treatment of chronic pain for a variety of conditions.
I initially specialised in working with anorexia and bulimia, and this led to working with the BDD Foundation and working with many other manifestations of body image problems, with or without an eating disorder.
I trained with EMDR Academy and am a Europe & UK accredited practitioner. My approach and training is based on advanced attachment informed EMDR.
EMDR is an excellent modality for treating PTSD and C-PTSD and I have advanced training in these areas.
At Still the Hunger we have always worked with complex mental health conditions, and this has included therapy related to historical sexual abuse. For 6 years we ran a therapeutic community programme in Reading for those with more complex problems, and this included a offering a group specifically for those affected by child abuse.
