I have been studying and /or working in the field of psychotherapy and counselling for fourteen years. I gained much of my experience working at an NHS psychotherapy service. My background was originally in managerial positions in the corporate world so I understand many of the pressures and expectations of the workplace.
Embarking on therapy may seem like a daunting commitment but it is a courageous step to take and can lead to a richer, more meaningful life. Therapy with me is a shared undertaking and together we will try and work towards a deep understanding of your lived experience, an exploration of your values and assumptions so that you can gain insight, and make an informed choice.in the way you live your life.
I work with individuals and couples, both short term and open ended. My main approach is existential which basically means it is informed by philosophy and is about appreciating the difficulties in living, particularly in dealing with uncertainty, freedom, choice and responsibility. I have also trained in psychodynamic and person-centred therapy as well as CBT. Sometimes, I draw on these modalities when it seems helpful to the client.
Goal oriented short term therapy
If you are looking for some focused counselling, then this might be what you are looking for. I offer a total of ten sessions. At the initial meeting we discuss what brings you to therapy and you decide on your goals, based on what you would like to get out of your time in therapy. We then have seven consecutive weekly sessions where your goals act as a guide for our work together. Therapy is followed by you continuing to work on the areas you have identified as important and then two sessions at three months and six months subsequent to our last session to see what progress you are making and what remains difficult, with a view to finding a way through. This therapy is designed to enable you to identify problem areas, acknowledge what is making life difficult for you currently and seeing if you could do things differently. Sometimes, just developing a deeper understanding and self reflection is enough to make things feel better.
My private practice is in North London, within walking distance of West Hampstead and Finchley Road underground stations and there is free street parking for one hour.
