My Approach

I work 'integratively' as my training has included several models of counselling, all of which can be helpful. The modality I find most helpful in gaining understanding is Transactional Analysis.

About Me

I did not start out as a therapist and have a varied life experience all of which, along with the years of psychotherapeutic and counselling training, helps me in my work. Therapists never finish their training. Like others who are registered with reputable organizations I attend at least 50 hours of ongoing professional development each year (usually about 70 hours). I continue in my own therapy. Why? Because if I am to be able to work honestly and ethically with you I need to know myself very well.

I worked in GP Practices for over 16 years offering psychotherapeutic counselling, psycho-education and longer term psychotherapeutic groups.

I have a particular interest in issues concerning adopted, fostered and looked-after children. I am an approved counsellor with Barnardo's Adoption Agency and have also trained in Attachment Focussed Counselling with them. I have no doubt at all that all the support and understanding that can be offered to those involved in the care of children and young people has a lasting effect on everyone. When we hear that 'we can't afford to..' I will say 'we can't afford NOT to'.

I live in Exmouth in Devon where I have a private practice. I can offer day-time appointments for counselling and supervision. I have at least 2 hours supervision each month myself.

I took a lot of turns before I arrived at my therapeutic career. Nothing was a waste, and now that I am here I feel happy and privileged to be doing something that I look forward to doing every day!
