I offer a limited number of appointments for individuals interested in self-reflection and personal change. With over 30 years experience in individual therapy, training, supervision and group experience, my approach includes cognitive as well as shorter-term supportive psychotherapy or counselling, and is grounded in psychoanalytic understandings of the mind. I have a university Diploma and also a research Doctorate in Psychotherapy, and my training experience includes working with groups as well as benefiting from some integration of medico-psychiatric areas as related to clinical practice. I have worked in university, NHS, and private settings, including acting in training and supervisory positions. For many years I have held various positions in professional bodies and published in the field.
Essentially, my approach is best described as interpretive and relational, starting with the presenting issues, and mindful of therapy as an opportunity,or invitation to take seriously the old adage: ' The unexamined life is..'.
I have worked with adult men and women, including professionals in associated fields, covering the following examples of personal and clinical difficulty:
anxiety, depression, borderline experience, psycho-sexual concerns, phobia and behavioural symptoms, relationship difficulty, death and loss, trauma ,and the general range of problems in living.
As well as medium term exploratory therapy, I also offer brief assessments and health insurance referrals (Bupa Provider). I work in a confidential setting, and normally offer weekly sessions. I do not use internet -associated forums as I consider the live relational encounter important and a preferable, if not saner medium.
Located in the Lincolnshire wolds, my practice mid-way between Louth and Horncastle, and is easily accessible from the coast. Parking is available. Following phone enquiries I normally offer an introductory session in order to understand your concerns better and possibly offer a preliminary assessment.
