My Approach

I provide psychotherapy to individuals, couples or group members wanting to overcome emotional difficulties and free themselves from unhealthy or self-limiting beliefs - leading to empowerment, change and ultimately a better future.

My interest and experience lies in Integrative Transitional Analysis (TA) Psychotherapy which influences the lens I view the world around me. The philosophy within TA, the Bernian concept of the “three-handed position’’ (1972, pp115) of “I’m OK, You’re OK, They’re OK’’ is a core belief at the heart of my work.

About Me

My name is Uzma Khan and I’m a UKCP Accredited Integrative Psychotherapist and an IAIP (International Association of Islamic Psychology) Clinical Supervisor. I work within an integrative framework and my passion lies in promoting collective and individual healing through dialogue, meaningful communication and challenging factors of inequality.

My Private Practice is based at the Tower Clinic in Horsforth, Leeds. The Tower Clinic provides a wide range of holistic therapies, counselling and psychotherapy aimed at individual healing and well-being.

Currently I am also the Chair of the Board of Directors at IHSAAN CIC Therapeutic Service (Ihsaan.org.uk) one of the first specialised psychotherapy and counselling services in Britain that provides a holistic integrative service that is language appropriate, culturally, spiritually sensitive and caters to the needs of Muslim clients with mild to moderate mental health difficulties in Bradford/Leeds and West Yorkshire.

Language - Can offer psychotherapy in Urdu.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Relationship problems can be triggered by a number of challenges such as communication difficulties, intimacy issues, addictions, family dynamics or changing life events to name a few. Quite often ‘opening channels of communication’ can be the key to re-establishing a healthier dynamic with your partner. Whatever the problem, acknowledging the strain it’s putting on the relationship is usually the first step to achieving a joint outcome. Seeking help from a therapist who is an independent trained professional, often gives couples new clarity and a supportive space to move forward. If you and your partner feel that talking to a therapist is an option, do get in contact. Perhaps this might be the first step that makes all the difference.
Anyone can benefit from psychotherapy. Talking to a trained professional can help to explore your concerns, thoughts and feelings and improve your mental health. You don’t need to be in crisis or have a diagnosed mental illness to have psychotherapy. If you would like to speak to someone, I have over twenty years experience in mental health and have helped clients who have been suffering with a wide range of psychological and psychosocial issues. If you would like individual psychotherapy - do get in touch.
Each client’s journey towards recovery will be an individual one. I have an interest and expertise working with Muslim clients to help clients gain better insight and not discount their religious or cultural views. I might often highlight resourceful ways of using Integrative Psychotherapy and TA concepts to aid the therapeutic process and ‘open channels of communication’. Simultaneously my emerging interest in Islamic Psychology (that takes into account the spiritual paradigm within Muslim clients I see private practice) is the backdrop influencing my work.
