My Approach

My approach is integrative which means I can work with many different approaches and techniques to find the best way that suits you. You will have a unique story which requires attention and acceptance.

I think underneath the search for relief from some problems lies a profound unspoken longing to feel understood. Together we can explore your problems that are making life difficult. This will help you understand your present and your past, feel less lonely and more accepting of who you are which can lead to a more fulfilled and emotionally authentic life.
I have worked with clients with many issues like isolation, addictions, depression, anxiety, sexual abuse, low self worth, major loss and bereavement, relationship break-ups/ difficulties, work/life balance and work related problems.

About Me

I am an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist and a registered member of the UKCP and BACP. Underlying my integrative training and work is a commitment to diversity and inclusion and I encourage an environment where my clients can be themselves. I have many years experience therapy and helping people make long lasting positive changes benefitting themselves and important others in their lives.
Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked as a lecturer in the visual arts with young and mature adults for many years in further education and saw that the most valuable learning happens when students feel heard and valued. I now bring that non-judgmental and caring attention to my therapeutic work.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Addictions are complex and usually caused by a combination of biological, psychological, social, and environmental factors. Addiction isn’t caused by just one thing—it's usually the result of a mix of vulnerabilities and circumstances. That’s why treatment often needs to be holistic, addressing the biological, emotional, and social roots of the addiction.
Understanding the root causes like stressful events: Job loss, relationship breakdowns, financial pressure, or the death of a loved one can all trigger depressive episodes. Isolation and loneliness: A lack of meaningful connections or social support is a major risk factor. Substance use: Alcohol or drug abuse can lead to or deepen depression by altering brain chemistry and behavior. Providing space to express feelings you may not share elsewhere.
In short, we are wired for connection. Strong, healthy relationships are not just a luxury—they’re a vital part of maintaining mental wellness. Below are reasons why they are important. 1. Emotional Support Trusted relationships offer a safe space to express feelings, fears, and frustrations. Talking with someone who listens and understands can reduce anxiety and help process difficult emotions. 2. Reduced Stress and Anxiety Knowing someone has your back can lower stress levels. Physical touch and affection (like hugs) can trigger the release of oxytocin, which helps calm the nervous system. 3. Sense of Belonging Feeling connected to others combats loneliness, which is linked to depression and cognitive decline. Healthy relationships give people a reason to engage with life and community. 4. Self-Esteem and Identity Supportive relationships validate our worth and help shape a healthy self-image. Encouraging friends or partners can boost confidence and motivation. 5. Healthy Habits and Coping Loved ones can encourage better lifestyle choices (like eating well, exercising, or seeking therapy). Social ties often act as a buffer during life’s crises, helping people bounce back more easily.
