My Approach

I am qualified to provide Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. (DBT). I can provide both in-person and online appointments. Once you have made contact with me, we will arrange an initial meeting. We use this meeting as an opportunity for you to gain a sense of me and you will be able to explain your reasons for seeking therapy, I will invite you to tell me a little bit about your life history and clarify with you what you would hope to achieve. Before making a commitment, we will discuss the practicalities of time, cost, confidentiality etc and you will be able to ask me any questions you may have. Where possible I offer a flexible approach and throughout our work together I will review the process with you to ensure we conclude the work at the right time.
Fees: Introductory Meeting £150 - Ongoing weekly appointments £65

About Me

I have over 40 years experience of providing therapeutic interventions within the NHS, private practice and the criminal justice system. My aim is to provide a safe space for you to think with me about whatever challenging or sometimes painful experiences you wish to consider. The confidential process of therapy can assist with gaining insight and understanding, changing destructive or unhelpful behaviour patterns and can inform ways to move forward in life with greater peace of mind. In this context, I have worked with people to improve their quality of life by overcoming emotional and psychological difficulties particularly in relation to anxiety, depression and relationship issues. In addition, I have considerable experience of assisting individuals with challenging issues relating to chemsex, pornography, involvement in the adult industries / sex work, addictions, problematic sexual behaviour, religious trauma, those leaving religious sects, PTSD, moral injury, offending behaviour and imprisonment.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

For the last seven years I have worked as the operational lead for chemsex crime in HMPPS and the Metropolitan Police. I am experienced at addressing the clinical /psychological effects of GHB and Crystal Methamphetamine use, associated psychosis, destructive behaviours, dependency, risks and vulnerabilities.
I have worked within prisons and in the community directly with men and women who have committed a variety of sexual offences or who are at risk of sexual offending. I work to enable an understanding of how the problematic behaviour developed, to identify the associated risks and to develop responsible strategies to minimise those risk in order to prevent further victimisation. I am able to provide reports to assist legal and court processes. I provide therapeutic support to partners and family members of those convicted of sexual crimes.
Sexuality is a common aspect of the human condition that is often discussed within therapy. My expertise has been gained in working with men who identify as gay, bi-sexual or with men who have sex with men and who are conflicted about their sexuality. My work has involved helping to address issues relating to; identity, coming out, vulnerability, exploitation, chemsex, relationships, HIV/AIDS, bereavement, loneliness, rejection, shame and bullying.
Responding to trauma has been a key part of my work and informed my decision to undertake a years specialist training in trauma at the NHS Tavistock & Portman NHS Trust. Since then I have worked with individuals and groups of people impacted by a whole range of traumatic events including; accidents, murder, terror related incidents, violence, sexual abuse, spiritual abuse, sudden loss and traumatic contexts that have unfolded over many years such as institutional abuse and exploitation. I also work with the traumatic effect of moral injury by which someone can be traumatised by their own actions.
