My Approach

I draw on a range of different theoretical, relational and creative approaches and ideas including psychodynamic, attachment and humanistic theories all of which are there to support you. This enables me to find the most appropriate way to tailor the therapy to your individual needs.

There can be times in our lives when it’s hard to make sense of how we are feeling. Having a space to be able to talk through painful issues in a safe environment helps to bring clarity and understanding to the causes as well as the symptoms of those problems and can lead you to a deeper understanding of yourself.

I offer a warm, empathic, confidential and non-judgmental space allowing you to be reflective in thinking about, talking about and expressing feelings, which until now might have been kept hidden. It gives you the chance to identify and articulate what has not been working for you within yourself and enables you to develop the tools to deal with future challenges.

Art therapy combines talking therapy and a space to engage in a creative approach. There can be times when words alone cannot fully describe an experience that has affected you deeply. Expressing yourself creatively in these moments can help you look at problems differently. No artistic skills are needed. Art therapy is not for everyone and there is no pressure to engage with this way of working if you feel more comfortable talking.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Art therapy is particularly effective for individuals facing the end of life, or those grieving a profound loss, art offers a non-verbal outlet for emotions that may be too complex, confusing, or overwhelming to express in words. This creative process can be especially valuable when traditional forms of communication fall short. Pain is something we instinctively resist. Yet in art therapy, the aim is not to erase or avoid this pain, but to create a safe, supportive space where individuals can gently confront it. Through creative expression, what is internal and hidden can be externalised - given form, shape, and voice. This allows people to explore their feelings with curiosity and compassion alongside the therapeutic presence of another person, fostering moments of connection and meaning.
I now offer EMDR (Eye Movement Reprocessing and Desensitization)  Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapy that helps people heal from distressing or traumatic experiences. Many of us go through events that continue to affect how we feel, think, or respond long after they’ve happened. EMDR has been shown to be highly effective in helping people process these experiences. While the memories themselves remain, they typically lose their emotional intensity and no longer feel overwhelming or disruptive. A key part of EMDR is maintaining a sense of safety in the present while gently focusing on past experiences. Using bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements, gentle tapping, or sounds), we target the negative memories so they can be desensitised and reprocessed in a way that feels more manageable to your life today. Treatment begins with an initial assessment to ensure EMDR is a good fit and that you feel prepared and supported. Some people notice positive changes after just a few sessions, while others may need more time. EMDR can also be used alongside other forms of therapy.
