I work creatively and compassionately, working at a pace that is right for you. If you’re new to therapy you can expect to come and talk about yourself and your experience of your life. I’ll support you in exploring what meaning you’re making from your experience, looking at areas where you might feel stuck and at new possibilities you might want to grow into.
I work in an embodied way, and I’ll encourage you to become aware of your embodied sensations and feelings in order to understand, and experience, what certain emotions feel like for you. My role as therapist is to support and challenge you, and I won’t shy away from shining a light on areas in your life or meaning making you may tend to avoid.
A repeated phrase in Gestalt therapy is “the only goal is awareness.” If you are not aware of your emotions and how they might be leading you to water, a desert, or a stagnating pond, your choices and flexibility are limited. You will continue to play out the patterns that are most comfortable and habitual for you. When you become aware, choice becomes possible. There is no right and wrong, only what you choose to do and whether you want more, or less of that.
What transpires between us inside the room is usually a mirror for your relational patterns outside in your life, and I'll work with you on how you are relating to me, and me to you, in the here and now of the therapy room. For me relationship is at the heart of Gestalt, creating a safe enough space for you to speak to me about your wants and needs, your longings and despair, without judgement, and to be witnessed just as you are.
I am here to work with you to support the aspects of yourself that haven’t been seen or heard, and to challenge relational patterns or habits that are no longing serving you. Please reach out if you're interested in working together.
