Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Grief and loss are areas that effect every single one of us, yet its power of our lives can be unimaginable. I have experience working with grief and complex grief, which is where grief may have continued for years, or involve complex feelings towards the bereavement. In our therapy there is a compassionate space to explore grief how it affects us, blocks us, and to find ways to living life rather than just existing.
I am interested in how the world in which we grow up, our culture and society play a huge role in shaping our experience of our world. In therapy this can have a hugely impactful role, though often undervalued. I have experience working in these areas with clients, and I hold great interest in exploring this with them, and the relationship with Identity.
In my practice I acknowledge that our mood effects ourselves and everything around us. It can be both a symptom and a cause. It can relate to our fears, our sense of self, our need to express, and our sense of loss. I have experience working with clients who find low mood and depression devastating their lives. Our work often explores how this is related to other issues around self and environment, and offers a way forward. I hold true with my clients and myself that there is always hope, even when we feel in the darkest of corners.
Who we are, how we see our selves, how others see us, and how we want to be push at the deepest questions of what it is to be human. In my therapy practice exploring Identity can be key. Intersections of socio-cultural identities play a huge role in our lives and in therapy. This is something I explored in my MSc. research on ‘Working with Identity in Psychotherapy’. I have experience with individuals exploring gender identity and coming to know themselves. In my therapy every part of ourselves is welcome.
I have experience working with individuals who have survived child sexual abuse, including from family relatives, siblings and family 'friends'. Our therapy offers a space to find your voice, perhaps for the first time, and to find compassion for yourself. In my practice I know that it is never too late to give ourselves more light. I do not offer EMDR, but I work in a Trauma-informed way with a Compassion-based Person-Centred approach.
