People often come to psychotherapy because life no longer makes sense in the way it once did. A relationship changes or ends. Someone dies. Becoming a parent doesn't happen as hoped. Children leave home. Illness, trauma or loss can leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves, our bodies, or from the life we imagined we would have.
While these experiences may appear very different on the surface, they often raise similar questions about identity, belonging and how we carry the emotional impact of our relationships throughout our lives.
My approach is rooted in psychodynamic and analytic psychotherapy, which understands that our earliest relationships continue to shape how we experience ourselves, other people and the world. Sometimes overwhelming experiences, particularly in childhood, cannot be fully processed at the time. We survive as best we can, but parts of those experiences may remain outside our awareness, influencing our emotions, relationships and even how we inhabit our bodies.
Alongside careful exploration of thoughts and feelings, I am interested in how the mind and body gradually reconnect through psychotherapy. Rather than viewing emotional distress and physical experience as separate, I am always interested in how they may inform one another. This isn't about searching for simple explanations or attributing physical symptoms to psychological causes. Instead, therapy can offer a space where previously disconnected experiences begin to find meaning, hopefully enabling you to feel more integrated, more alive and more able to move forward.
I have a particular interest in supporting people through periods of transition, loss and uncertainty, including changes in relationships, infertility, pregnancy loss, grief, caring responsibilities and questions of identity. Whatever brings you to therapy, my aim is to offer a thoughtful, containing relationship in which difficult experiences can be explored safely and at your own pace.
Alongside my individual practice, I facilitate psychotherapy groups. Group therapy offers a unique opportunity to understand ourselves through our relationships with others. Many people discover that experiences they believed they carried alone begin to make sense within the shared support of a group, creating opportunities for insight, connection and lasting change.

Hello, I'm Sarah Hanchet and I'm a UKCP Adult Psychotherapist.
I originally qualified as a group therapist with the Institute of Group Analysis and conducted therapy groups in the NHS, private hospitals and private practice.
I then achieved UKCP accreditation as a psychodynamic psychotherapist and set up my practice in Central London.
To deepen my trauma-based work, I am currently training with the Institute of Embodied Psychotherapy.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
