My goal as a therapist is to help you explore the emotional questions in your life so that you can understand, with greater clarity, why you feel like you do. My practice offers a non-judgemental, confidential setting where we can reflect on what has brought you to this point in your life, and consider your potential to live differently in the future.
In our sessions I listen carefully not only to your current concerns, but also the past experiences and relationships that shape them. Often, we view the present through a lens of the past, and can end up stuck in emotional patterns which are no longer appropriate or helpful. By reflecting on how these patterns have formed, therapy can help you to identify which aspects of your life you would like to hold onto, and which you would rather let go.
Before training as a therapist my background was in the arts, and as a result I pay close attention to the narratives we construct to protect ourselves from pain. I am particularly interested in the conflict between our public and private selves, and the feelings of isolation and disconnection that can build as a result. My clinical experience includes working with people suffering from depression, persistent anxiety, relationship problems and low self-esteem, but I also understand that it can be difficult to put your finger on exactly what is wrong - this too is a valid place to start.
I appreciate that the process of finding a therapist can be difficult, and it’s completely normal to be unsure or hesitant. You are welcome to call me for a complimentary fifteen minute phone call to discuss what you need. I welcome enquiries, and am ready to help you decide whether psychotherapy could be right for you.
I completed my 5-year training in psychodynamic psychotherapy at the WPF and the British Psychotherapy Foundation, both leading training organisations with reputations for clinical excellence. Since qualification I have worked in a range of settings including the charity sector and community organisations, as well as in private practice. I am an accredited member of the UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy) and the BPC (British Psychoanalytic Council), and I adhere to the highest ethical and clinical practice standards. I am also a professional member of the Foundation for Psychotherapy and Counselling (FPC), and a member of the London Therapy Network.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
