My Approach

What could be more important than spending some time to discover what is causing your current distress or difficulties and exploring how you might be able to feel differently. Often, we are confused or frightened by how we are feeling and long to be more peaceful, in control or to maybe just to like ourselves more than we do. Many things can get in the way of the happy, productive and peaceful life we would like to have. The therapy I offer will focus on what has brought you to feel the need for counselling at this moment in time and how, together, we can create the change you are hoping for.

Over thinking, difficulties in sleeping, too much scrolling on social media, not being able to enjoy the simple pleasures in life are signs that something is disrupted within us. My psychotherapeutic training focusses on the wider experience of the client not just the most obvious symptoms. The relationships we are in, the pressures of work, the impact of the changes we are all concerned about globally can all have a deep impact on how we feel. I can make a safe, grounded space to explore all of issues that preoccupy or burden us.
I have an Advanced Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and a PG Diploma in Supervision with additional training in trauma, Complex PTSD and the impact of difficult early experience both in the family and in school. I am skilled in working with the effects of anxiety and ODC and a strong understanding of the Autism and ADHD.

My working life began in the corporate world in Training and Development, and I went on to run my own demanding business. I have more recently worked in both the NHS and Social Services. This background gives me a unique insight into the culture and pressures of a variety of sectors. Alongside this I raised a large, blended family and know the challenges (and joys) of parenting and family life.
Whatever difficulty you are facing I am sure that my rigorous training and my unique life experience can help to bring insight, validation, comfort and move you towards a healthier and more rewarding life.

I offer therapy both online and from the office at my rural home between Malton and Pocklington. Clients tell me that they value being in the calm, peaceful and welcoming space that this countryside place offers. If this feels like the kind of therapeutic support that might work for you, please get in touch by email or telephone and I will really look forward to hearing from you.

Whatever you may be facing my goal is to support you in making meaningful, sustainable changes that enhance your wellbeing and quality of life.

Training and work experience

I alongside my Advanced Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Supervision (UCKP/SCPTI) and have experience supervising both individuals and groups across various professional settings, and I welcome new supervisees.

I have also worked extensively in the charitable sector, providing both short- and long-term counselling through York Women’s Counselling and KYRA Women’s Project. My work in these settings has deepened my understanding of gender-specific challenges and affirmed the importance of safety, trust and relational depth in therapeutic work.

About Me

Hello, my name is Sally,

I’m a psychotherapeutic counsellor and supervisor with over 15 years of experience of helping people make real and lasting change. I bring professional integrity, warmth, and depth to both therapy and supervision.

I work with

  • Couples
  • Individuals

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Working with Anxiety Anxiety can take many forms — constant worry, racing thoughts, physical tension, or a sense of being on edge — and it can easily become overwhelming. In our work together, I help clients understand what’s happening in both the mind and body when anxiety takes hold, and to develop ways of calming the nervous system and responding with greater compassion and balance. Through gentle exploration, we look at the deeper patterns or experiences that may be fuelling your anxiety, while also focusing on practical tools to manage it day to day. Over time, this process can help you feel more grounded, confident, and able to meet life’s challenges with greater ease.
Working with Depression Depression can leave you feeling stuck, disconnected, or as though the colour has drained from life. In therapy, I offer a space where you can begin to make sense of these feelings, understand what might lie beneath them, and find gentle ways to reconnect with yourself and the world around you. Together, we work towards restoring a sense of hope, self-compassion, and meaning — at a pace that feels right for you.
Working with Relationship Difficulties Relationships are central to our wellbeing, yet they can also be a source of pain, conflict, or confusion. I help clients explore patterns of relating that may be rooted in early experiences, and to develop healthier ways of communicating and connecting. Whether you’re struggling with a partner, family member, or colleague, therapy can help you understand yourself in relationship and build more satisfying, balanced connections.
Supervision Practice My supervision work is grounded in the same values that underpin my therapy practice — relational depth, curiosity, and compassion. I draw on my integrative background, including relational–developmental theory, trauma-informed practice, compassion-focused approaches, and Internal Family Systems (IFS), to support supervisees in reflecting on both the client process and their own internal experience. Supervision with me offers a collaborative and supportive space to think about the complexities of clinical work, the impact on the practitioner, and the relational dynamics that unfold. My aim is to help therapists feel resourced, reflective, and connected to their own professional integrity and growth.
