My Approach

My specialisms are working with loss - mainly bereavement - and the aftermath of trauma - particularly arising from harm of any type endured in childhood or in close relationships. My approach can also help you grapple with the big questions of life - finding you just can’t enjoy what you’ve worked hard for, a sense there must be more to life, or the feeling that you’re not really sure who you are or what you’re meant to be doing.
In my experience, feelings like this are an invitation to self-exploration, understanding and healing. I offer a space to talk, confront, explore, process, and make peace with your feelings and memories in safety and privacy.

My skills really lie in helping you get to know and understand yourself deeply, to notice what’s hidden and see what’s really going on in your relationship with yourself and others, and to make new meaning from the events, patterns and repetitions of your life. We’ll work together to help you find some peace, heal your wounds, work out who you are, what you’re about and how you’d like to go forward.
I work with over 18s and I have experience in working with people diagnosed with or querying autism and ADHD. Usually I work mid to long term, ie a minimum of one year. Based on my experience I find therapy is most effective in weekly sessions.

About Me

Experienced psychotherapist working mainly with trauma, loss and the big questions of life.

If you can’t get moving, feel rubbish all the time and don’t find joy in anything, therapy can help.
I’m interested in helping if you’re experiencing painful, runaway thoughts, and feelings that won’t be managed or don’t make sense.
Sometimes it’s clear where difficulties like anxiety, depression, insomnia, mood swings and stress are coming from, but at other times they seem to arise for no good reason. Do you have the nagging sense that old feelings or incidents that you couldn’t fully deal with at the time are still affecting you? Dissatisfaction with life, identity confusion, or feelings of dread with no clear cause are also indications that it may be time to get some support.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I’m interested in helping with you with adjusting to a fresh absence in your life, particularly the agony of losing a loved one. I can also help with other types of loss including: Losing a job, a profession, a role, money or status Losing health and adjusting to getting older Facing endings, fear of death, terminal diagnosis Letting someone go, recovery after a breakup, empty nest Mourning the childhood or the parenting you didn’t have Going no contact with someone.
I’m interested in supporting you while you take on the challenges posed by those dead-of-night questions such as: Is this it? What’s it all about, really? Why does this always happen in my life? Who even am I? What is my purpose? I have so much but still feel bad - why? What can I learn from what I’ve been through?
I hold a diploma in supervision from the Northern Guild for Psychotherapy and Counselling in Newcastle and am a registered UKCP supervisor. I welcome inquiries from therapists interested in a holding, process-focused space with attention to the practicalities and challenges of clinical practice. I value interpersonal safety and offer a trauma-informed relationship for professionals in any kind of helping work. My own core model is currently psychodynamic psychotherapy and Transactional Analysis and I can also offer support to therapists working with a range of humanistic approaches including person-centred models, trauma models, IFS and CFT. I’m very happy to offer a free discovery call to anyone interested in finding out more.
I can help you get to grips with the aftermath of difficult experiences, whether they happened long ago or very recently, that overwhelmed your capacity to cope. You may be experiencing: Flashbacks, intrusive memories and nightmares Feeling constantly on the alert or easily startled Feeling numb, zoning out, losing time, drifting out of contact with people or parts of yourself Panic attacks, sweating, breathing difficulty, sometimes coming out of nowhere Relationships that are stormy, hurtful or abusive Overwhelming feelings of anger, sadness, shame or fear
