My Approach

My approach is tailored to the individual in a gradual process co-created by me and the client. This often begins with some sharing of significant events and often evolves into soulful discussions about what really matters in life. I am trained to use a variety of therapeutic tools such as gestalt chair work, use of artwork, creative visualisation and body psychotherapy but I only suggest these things in the moment if it feels intuitively like it might be helpful. I would suggest that we begin with a few trial sessions to see if the connection feels right and the work starts to happen.

About Me

I'm passionate about the natural world and exploring spirituality and what it means to be human. I love people and I love my dog, my family and solitude. Working as a therapist is a privilege and it's more than an occupation for me.....it's a lifestyle and a calling. When I'm not doing that you'll find me in the woods, on the beach or in a sauna somewhere because I'm empathic, sensitive and as a consequence I need to do plenty of self-care and walk the talk. The thing I enjoy the most about doing this work is that everyone has a unique path and journey to take in therapy and it's amazing to see how the relationship works in very different ways that somehow align with each person's history. There is something magical about not knowing, co-creating and exploring the many facets of someone's experience and challenges.
I guess I seem to attract and work best with people who feel different or that they don't fit in in some way either in their family of origin or in society generally. I love to help people to feel the beauty of their soul and to witness that happening in the work. I'm passionately inclusive and wish to make people feel that they can be truly themselves. A spiritual approach to psychotherapy isn't about sharing a similar meditation practice it's more about my embodied presence in the room and my clients say that they feel the atmosphere is peaceful in the space I've created.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I love Gabor Mate's definition of addiction as a sickness in our society due to a loss of connection. I try to help people find connection again and gradually work on their social and relational skills. I support people whilst they are having specialist help such as a 12-step abstinence based approach to overcoming addiction.
I support clients with practical tools to help them manage anxiety such as grounding and breathing techniques as well as encouraging people to explore what they may not have grieved fully or what they may be angry about. I work in depth with what is at the roots of anxiety.
I currently do some therapy with members of the armed forces and people living in war zones with PTSD symptoms.
I have meditated since I was in my 20's and have studied various forms of Eastern philosophy. I'm especially interested in how Eastern traditions have been applied to Western people and adapted. I have extensive experience in spiritual communities and am familiar with the various challenges associated with them.
My training was trauma informed with an understanding of how that shapes the brain. I am mindful of working with trauma and approach it gently and with great care.
