I work mainly using the powerful therapeutic approach of Transactional Analysis (TA for short). TA draws on several traditions of psychology including child development (i.e. the typical stages we go through growing up). I also use elements of other approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (C.B.T for short, which focuses on the impact of our thoughts and feelings on our behavior), acceptance and commitment based work, as well as, mindfulness.
In couples work, I can help you improve communication and gain a better understanding of yourselves and each other to navigate difficult and confusing patterns of behaviour that keep happening between you. For couples that are uncertain about the future of their relationship, counselling can help to gain clarity, and if the decision is made to separate, it can offer a chance to be amicable. This can be hugely beneficial to all, including children.
Generally speaking, my approach is to play an active part; where I ask questions, reflect, share theory and challenge where relevant. You are also required to be active in your change process.
When working one to one, I offer online sessions and in-person sessions in the Derbyshire area. With couples, I offer in-person sessions only.
I offer a free initial assessment; with one to one clients this is upto twenty minutes, and with couples this is upto half an hour. This enables me to get a summary of your current circumstances and needs, and for you to get a sense of whether I am the sort of person you want to work with. Thereafter, my fees are £55 for a sixty minute 1:1 session, or £70 for a seventy five minute couples session.
A warm welcome to my page!
I am a qualified and compassionate psychotherapist, and an integrative and attachment focused couples counsellor. I have a wealth of experience, including developed by my several years practicing as a social worker with people in very difficult situations. I am currently running my own private therapy and counselling practice. I have been an affiliate with bereavement charity '2 Wish Upon A Star', and a handful of employers in offering their employment assistance programme.
I work with adults on a one to one basis, and with couples, offering a safe and none-judgmental space. In one to one work, I offer
short-term counselling to long-term psychotherapy.
Counselling tends to be a shorter-term process, usually focused on problem-solving around a specific issue. For example, at work or in a relationship.
Psychotherapy is a longer-term process that involves going backwards to go forwards. Primarily by exploring your childhood experiences, the meaning you made of these, and how these thoughts, feelings and behaviors are not serving you well in the here and now.
I commonly support clients with childhood/developmental trauma, loss and grief, life transitions, anxiety, depression, as well as, cultural issues.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
