My Approach

I am an integrative therapist and my practice is rooted in person centred humanistic psychology; however I draw significantly upon attachment theory, Transactional Analysis and neuroscience. I am also a trauma specialist and certified EMDR therapist. I tailor my therapeutic approach to accommodate the needs of each individual client. I am a confident practitioner with clients across the age range and have the necessary and additional qualifications and skills to work with children and adolescents.

I can work at relational depth and support clients to explore how their past experiences have come to shape their present day reality.  I can also provide shorter term, solution focused therapy.
Psychoeducation is an integral part of my therapy and where appropriate, I draw upon cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) and Dr Bruce Perry's Neurosequential model of practice.
I recognise the value of talking therapy but also like to invite clients, of all ages, to use creative methods to facilitate their emotional expression. This can include the use of sandtray; art; craft; metaphor/story work; clay-field therapy; guided imagery; and somatic bodywork.
When working with children and teenagers, sessions will typically involve the use of play therapy, games and/or creative methods. I find that play and creative activity can help young people feel at ease, and allow them to process and make sense of big, difficult and confusing feelings.
Within the safety of a containing and supportive therapeutic relationship, clients of all ages are able to work through painful memories, and difficult thoughts and feelings without becoming overwhelmed. I support all clients to make sense of their life experiences and develop new empowering stories which help them move forwards with resilience.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have had training in the assessment of ADHD in children and adults, and now focus on offering therapeutic support and intervention to help people who feel challenged with attentional issues, impulsivity and/or hyperactivity. I specialise is supporting adults and children to have healthy relationships, to realise their skills and strengths, and to live life in alignment with their interests and values.
Anxiety can accompany many types of mental health related issues. I can work with co-occuring mental health issues.
I can support people experiencing all types of intrusive thoughts and all the different forms of OCD.
