I am particularly interested in exploring the defences that we have all put in place in order to avoid potentially difficult and painful feelings. For example, to avoid painful feelings relating to past trauma or loss, we might “hide” our own feelings, by putting everyone else’s needs in front of our own. I find that when a person is aware of why they behave in a certain way, then that awareness is often sufficient to trigger personal choices and lasting change. I love the idea of integrating and balancing what we think and say with how we feel and behave. At the heart of my work is the relationship that we build together. I am really good at providing a safe, non-judgemental and creative environment in which to enable my clients to communicate freely and openly about whatever is on their mind.
I studied at Scarborough Counselling and Psychotherapy Training Institute. I completed my placement at a busy GP surgery where I practiced short term, solution based counselling interventions. Before working as a counsellor I worked for many years as a welfare rights adviser and trainer, I have been described as a natural facilitator.
I have a busy private practice on Victoria Road, Scarborough where I see clients face to face. I also offer sessions via on line platforms or over telephone, what ever is easier for you.
